POSITION OBJECTIVES

Prepare meals as directed by the Food Services Supervisor for Clients and Staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Ensure quality internal and external customer care
• Check in food when delivered: a) ensure food signed for is in correct amounts b) ensure the quality of fruits and vegetables is good c) ensure frozen foods are delivered in a frozen state.
• Stock food: a) place food received in proper places in freezers and refrigerators b) place food on shelves in store rooms in correct areas c) rotate food to ensure oldest products are used first d) destroy/throw away food which is no longer any good.
• Cleaning kitchen area: a) continuously clean and disinfect cooking and preparation surfaces b) clean pots and pans c) clean stoves as needed d) mop floors as needed e) clean fryer and replace cooking oil as needed f) clean bathroom in kitchen g) sweep, mop and empty trashcans.
• Serving food: a) place food in large containers for transport together facilities b) serve food to clients at Stockton Street facility or TPC Village c) take food if needed to Detox/CDC
• Preparing food: a) prepare meals daily as required by menu items b) substitute foods as needed c) observe health and safety regulations in the preparation of food d) prepare food for off site locations e) help load food on truck.
• Special events: a) be available for special events as requested by the food services manager b) set up area for special meetings.
• Prepare for monthly AA breakfast.
• Ordering food and other supplies: a) assist the food services manager in ordering food supplies b) assist the food services manager to ensure needed non-food items such as paper, plates and utensils are kept in stock.
• Open and Close kitchen: a) turn ovens/toaster ovens on/off b) ensure kitchen is locked at night.
• Perform special projects and other Agency related assignments as requested.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

• Must be eligible through DCF with Level II Background checks throughout employment.
• Must abide by the organization's Code of Conduct, policy and procedures, and state certification code of ethics.
• The ability to comply with equal employment opportunity requirements.
• Must complete all required in-person and Relias trainings assigned during probation and throughout employment.
• Must practice universal precautions as part of regular job duties whenever applicable.
• Timely and regularly complete all required documentation, reports, and other organization-related paperwork.
• Must be able to perform assigned work independently with minimal supervision and make decisions using appropriate judgment.
• Maintain the work area clean and orderly, ensuring safe operating conditions.
• Must be able to take direction and guidance from managers and supervisors respectfully and function as an effective team member.
• Must have the ability to comply with a workplace of dignity and respect

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required
• One year as a cook in a facility of 25 or more clients

SKILLS

• Ability to communicate in English and to read and understand written English at the High School level to prepare food as shown on menu
• Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies and life threatening situations in an appropriate manner
• Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
• Strong customer service and organizational skills.

• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds safely

• Familiar with all food service equipment
