Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Labor and Delivery Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional care to expectant mothers during labor and delivery, ensuring the safety and well-being of both mother and child. This role requires a strong foundation in nursing practices, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess the health status of mothers and newborns throughout the labor process.
  • Provide support and education to patients and their families regarding labor, delivery, and postpartum care.
  • Administer medications, IV infusions, and perform necessary medical procedures such as suturing and catheterization.
  • Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation using EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner.
  • Implement infection control protocols to ensure patient safety during delivery.
  • Assist in triaging patients in emergency situations as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to obstetric nursing practices.

Qualifications

  • Current nursing license with experience in Labor and Delivery preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and patient assessment techniques.
  • Familiarity with critical care experience, acute pain management, and emergency medicine practices is highly desirable.
  • Experience with various EMR systems (e.g., Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks) is an asset.
  • Ability to perform essential nursing skills including IV insertion, phlebotomy, medication administration, and vital sign monitoring.
  • Previous experience in a Level I or Level II trauma center is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) standards is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations including pediatrics and geriatrics.
