Purpose:

Administers medications and treatments and maintains related medical records. 

Accountabilities:

· Administers prescribed medications to patients and maintains related medical records under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

· Presents medication to client and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medication, using specified procedures.

· Takes vital signs or observes client to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions.

· Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.

· Completes progress notes, medication administration logs and other records on clients as needed.

· Assists clients with personal hygiene needs and activities of daily living. This may include varying levels of assistance from minimal to total care, depending on the client condition (e.g., bathing, toileting and related care, feeding and mobility). 

· Records all documentation, as assigned, to include entry of information into computer system and/or paper charting.

· Assists with and conducts selected activity groups, as assigned and qualified to conduct; documents activities accordingly. 

· Assists in triages, admissions, and discharges of clients, as assigned, to include entry of information into computer system. May be asked to assist with assessments, as assigned and within scope of practice. 

· Supervises clients in special cares areas, as assigned. Advises supervisor and/or nursing staff immediately of any care or safety issues.

· Assists RSI/Wyandot Center staff in responding to emergency situations. 

· Works with supervisor and care team to ensure all shift duties are completed and any training needs are addressed. 

· Maintains a cheerful and pleasant manner with all staff, consumers, and clients at this facility.  

· Maintains needed training to meet job expectations, compliance and position competency.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent. Certified as a medication aide per state regulations. Current, active certification on the Kansas Nurse Aide Registry. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification. This certification must be current for continued employment. 

Experience: Two years of direct care mental health experience. 

Skills & Abilities:   

· Basic knowledge of human behavior or general mental health concepts, and independent living skills (e.g. personal grooming, basic nutrition and general health needs.) 

· Computer proficiency and a working knowledge of Microsoft programs required. 

· Demonstrated satisfactory prior work history and records, including dependability in attendance and punctuality. 

· Ability to follow and complete directions and assignments. 

· Ability to prioritize multiple assignments. 

· Demonstrated good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers and clients, etc. 

· Effective time management and the ability to adapt to changing priorities. 

· Ability to recognize problems and demonstrated good judgment and common sense in problem-solving. 

· Ability to perform considerable/repetitive and routine physical activities of sitting, standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending and gripping – to assist with client care. 

· Physical strength necessary to implement safety techniques, including potential physical holds, with clients. 

· Hearing and vision abilities within normal range. 

· Emotional and physical capacity to control and manage self, if clients act out or behave in a verbal or physical manner.

Work Conditions and Considerations:  

· Work in an often stressful environment, including availability to respond to crisis situations at all times (nights, weekends, holidays, etc.). 

· Hours may vary, due to business need and/or weather condition considerations, working some evenings, weekends and holidays are required.

· Ability to effectively and safely use all devices and equipment required to fulfill the essential functions of this position.
