Position Summary

The R&D Coordinator plays a critical hands-on role in the execution of product testing and process validation within the R&D department. This position focuses on sample preparation, equipment operation, real-time data collection, and accurate documentation in support of customer trials and internal development projects.

The R&D Coordinator ensures tests are performed consistently, safely, and in alignment with approved protocols while supporting a collaborative, detail-oriented, and food-safe testing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Test Preparation & Sample Handling

· Prepare, label, and organize test samples according to approved test protocols.

· Verify sample identification, quantities, and conditions prior to testing.

· Assist with infeed and discharge sample handling during live trials.

Equipment Setup & Operation

· Set up, operate, and monitor R&D testing equipment, including but not limited to:

o Spiral freezers

o Tunnel freezers

o Sous vide systems

o Chillers and prep equipment

o Temperature dataloggers and probes

· Follow documented startup, operation, and shutdown procedures for all equipment.

· Monitor tests in real time and report any deviations or abnormalities immediately.

Data Collection & Documentation

· Collect and accurately record:

o Infeed and discharge temperatures

o Test times and dwell times

o Product weights and dimensions (as required)

o Environmental or operational observations

· Complete all required logs in real time (no delayed documentation).

· Photograph test setups, sample placement, and equipment configurations as required by protocol.

Tool, Equipment & Area Maintenance

· Maintain cleanliness of tools, work areas, and equipment before, during, and after testing.

· Support calibration checks and verification of thermometers, dataloggers, and measuring tools.

· Identify and report equipment issues, damage, or calibration concerns promptly.

Documentation & File Management

· Assist with uploading test documentation, photos, and data files to designated client folders.

· Ensure correct file naming, version control, and folder structure are followed.

· Support traceability and audit-readiness of all test records.

Team Support & Collaboration

· Communicate clearly with R&D team members regarding test status, issues, and needs.

· Support cross-training efforts to ensure continuity during high-volume testing or staff absences.

· Assist with additional R&D tasks assigned to support team goals and project timelines.

Required Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED required; technical or food-related training preferred.

· Prior experience in a laboratory, food production, manufacturing, or testing environment is a plus.

· Ability to follow detailed written protocols and verbal instructions precisely.

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.

Preferred Skills & Competencies

· Familiarity with food safety principles and hygienic handling practices.

· Comfort working with mechanical equipment and basic troubleshooting.

· Ability to work in cold environments for extended periods.

· Basic computer skills for data entry, file uploads, and photo documentation.

· Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

· Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. as required.

· Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments.

· Use of required PPE, including cold-weather gear, gloves, and safety equipment.

· Manual dexterity for handling small instruments, probes, and dataloggers.

Work Schedule

· Full-time; hours may vary based on testing schedules.

· Overtime, early starts, or extended shifts may be required during customer trials or peak testing periods.
