The cashier is an integral part of the Co-op and makes a lasting impression with the customer. Providing exceptional customer service by quickly and correctly assisting customers with checking out as well as bagging purchases in a friendly and responsive way is necessary.
Essential Functions of all GreenTree Co-op Market Positions:
- Customer service - Provides friendly, inclusive, respectful, helpful customer service by projecting an approachable presence, greeting and thanking each customer. Responds promptly and knowledgeably to customer questions about Co-op policies and products and refers customers to other employees/resources as needed.
- Appearance - Wears the GreenTree Co-op Market required uniform of the department as to be identifiable to customers and maintains the uniform in professional, clean, and orderly appearance. Keeps work areas clean, organized and sanitary.
- Safety - Works efficiently and in a safe manner, following safety procedures.
- Work Ethic - Takes initiative and works as part of a team. Asks coworkers for assistance as needed and provides help as needed.
- Continues to learn and develop knowledge of the position, co-op, and industry.
- Demonstrates regular and dependable attendance.
- Follows all department and store SOPs.
- Able to clearly explain how Co-op Ownership functions, promotes Ownership and the benefits of becoming a Co-op Owner.
Essential Functions of the Cashier Position:
- Provides accurate customer service and ensures the correct accounting of transactions. Receives payment in full for purchases; returns accurate change.
- Maintains an orderly and accurate cash drawer which is balanced at end of shift.
- Accurately processes discounts and coupons.
- Store Knowledge - maintains knowledge of item locations, sale items and sales periods, local products, and seasonal availability.
- Assists customers in placing special orders, applying store credits, and processing returns.
- Facilitates the movement of check-out lines by maintaining the department standard for rings-per-minute.
- Calls for back-up as needed to ensure optimal customer service and smooth traffic flow.
- Assists customers with price checks and returns.
- Bagging - arranges items in reusable and Co-op provided bags or boxes that are acceptable in weight and order. Provides carry out services as requested.
- Maintains front end area and parking lots/sidewalks in a clean, orderly condition by organizing carts and baskets, replenishing bags, maintaining register supplies, sweeping/mopping, picking up litter, emptying trash, shoveling snow, cleaning and sanitizing carts and baskets regularly. Relays low quantity of register supplies to the Front End Manager before running out.
- Delivers returnable bottles and cans to the appropriate receiving or stocking staff and performs other tasks as applicable.
- Alerts Front End Manager, Lead Cashier, or other appropriate staff to potential shoplifters, disorderly customers, or other emergencies.
- Prevents shoplifting through awareness, proactive customer service, and reporting suspicious activity to Front End Manager or Lead Cashier.
- Appropriately verifies identification for alcohol purchases.
- Attends Front End department meetings and communicates regularly with other Front End staff to ensure department cohesion and customer satisfaction.
- Takes initiative in completing assigned tasks and works as part of a team.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by Front End management.
What we're looking for:
· Part-time, various hours including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
Experience:
- Preferred: At least 6 months' face-to-face customer service experience
- Preferred: Cash-handling experience
- Preferred: Some experience in a retail environment
- Preferred: Knowledge of GreenTree Co-op Market's product offerings
Skills:
- Required: Demonstrated customer service skills, including ability to project friendly, outgoing presence
- Preferred: Demonstrated ability to deal respectfully with challenging people
- Preferred: Demonstrated ability to work well with others in fast-paced team environment
Essential Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Prolonged moving on the sales floor
- Ability to perform continuous fine work and gripping with hands, or with accommodations.
- Ability to read small print
- Frequent reaching, bending, twisting, and rotating
- Ability to lift 30lbs repeatedly, up to 50lbs occasionally
- Ability to work outdoors, sometimes under extreme temperature and weather conditions
- Ability to move around the sales floor and parking areas efficiently
- Ability to operate equipment including phone system, computer system, and box cutters
- Regular exposure to common food allergens
