Position Summary

We are seeking a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced power conversion products. This role focuses on driving innovation in power density, efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise and leadership to guide product development from concept through high-volume manufacturing.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Lead multiple product development and research initiatives, providing technical direction and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Manage and guide engineering teams through the full product lifecycle—from concept to high-volume production.
  • Research emerging technologies and evaluate their potential for future product integration.
  • Apply advanced techniques for efficiency optimization in power electronics designs.
  • Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure successful product certification.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation including requirements, test plans, validation reports, and ECOs.
  • Propose circuit topologies, perform loss analysis, evaluate performance targets, and estimate product cost based on specifications.
  • Design complex circuits including power, control, supervisory, and regulatory functions.
  • Review PCB layouts and design documentation prior to release for procurement and production.
  • Support product qualification efforts, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Oversee preparation and delivery of documentation for customers, factory pre-release, and final production release.
  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews with QA, Manufacturing, Marketing, and senior leadership.
  • Generate technical documentation to support design, manufacturing, and marketing activities.
  • Provide technical support to Marketing and Sales during opportunity development.
Experience Required
  • BSEE with 8+ years, MSEE with 5+ years, or Ph.D. with 2+ years of relevant experience in power electronics design.
  • Extensive experience in high-frequency, high-density switching power supply design, including:
  • Circuit topologies (Flyback, LLC, Buck, ZVS, Synchronous, etc.)
  • Control theories, loop compensation, and supervisory functions
  • Magnetics design (embedded and SMT)
  • PCB layout, component placement, and routing
  • EMI/RFI mitigation and thermal management
  • Proficient in simulation and design tools such as MathCAD, PSpice, SIMPLIS; experience with modeling topologies, thermal, and EMI performance.
  • Solid understanding of digital control via embedded controllers, firmware development, and communication bus protocols.
  • Familiarity with high-volume manufacturing technologies, production variances, and packaging challenges.
  • Experience with PADS software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of patent application, approval, and validation processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; capable of guiding critical design decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring products from concept to high-volume manufacturing.
  • Effective collaborator across cross-functional teams.

Compensation Data

Salary range for this role is $167,150/year to $183,850/year. The range listed is based on market data and internal benchmarks. Actual compensation may vary depending on a candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.
