Associate Underwriter Founded in 2022, Volant Programs Inc. is a Surplus Lines Wholesale Brokerage and Managing General Underwriter. Volant Programs provides a quick and nimble approach to meeting the needs of independent agents for select niche products. Our current focus is providing insurance for Apartments. We are experiencing rapid growth and expect this trend to continue in 2026. The Associate Underwriter position is a great position to establish a solid underwriting foundation and a great opportunity for recent college graduates or people looking to make a career change.
Summary & Key Responsibilities:An Associate Underwriter will provide administrative support to the underwriting team with an assigned area/region/function. Will work to assist in achieving profitable growth by providing support with marketing, underwriting, business retention and meeting customer service objectives, and actively participate in the underwriting process to support renewal, and new business activities.
Key Responsibilities:
As an Associate Underwriter, you'll evaluate information and perform key underwriting functions in support of the Underwriting staff. We'll trust you to ensure risks meet established eligibility guidelines and comply with company and regulatory standards. Process property and casualty insurance transactions including but not limited to quotes for new and renewal business, endorsements, cancellations, loss runs, submissions, premium reports, and miscellaneous items in accordance with establish department guidelines.
Service new and renewal accounts for change requests to be reviewed by underwriters for items that are beyond their designated authority limits. Coordinated renewal activities to maximize customer experience and service levels.
Handle routine correspondence with agencies while maintaining quality file documentations standards. Communicate with external and internal personnel to achieve the highest levels of customer experience and service.
Evaluate standard renewal commercial property/casualty accounts and endorsements, within authority level, by reviewing updated account information, claims experience, risk control surveys, risk acceptability, and pricing.
Minimum Experience/Education:
- Bachelor's or associate Degree from a college or technical school is preferred; or 3 to 5 years related work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possess strong customer orientation and excellent interpersonal & communication skills.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. While quickly and professionally responding to inquiries from customers.
- Regularly and consistently demonstrates commitment to company values and guiding principles.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Commercial rating experience desired but not required.
