Job Description
- Responsible for supervising subordinate performance, coordinating use of resources, and performing other duties as assigned.
Must be able to function effectively in, and may be assigned to, any of the following Sergeant positions:

Requirements
Education
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Associate's degree or at least 60 hours of college credit preferred.
Certifications
Missouri POST certification.
Valid Motor Vehicle Operator license.
Job Experience
5 years of law enforcement experience.
Examination Components
- Applicants interested in promotion to the Sergeant position must have no categories with ratings below "Meets Expectations" in their last Annual Performance Evaluation.
- The examination process consists of a Written Exam, a Structured Oral Interview, an evaluation of the candidate's education, experience, performance appraisals, attendance, and documented job performance.
- Applicants are required to submit an Education & Experience Form and documentation to support their claim for points to Lt. Eric Feagans in the Police Department by 10:00 am on December 30th, 2025.
- Applicants must achieve a passing score of 70% on the Written Exam and Structured Oral Interview to continue in the promotional process.
- Scores from the written examination, structured oral interview, education & experience, and job performance will be tabulated to determine the applicants' ratings, at which point candidates will be added to the Eligibility List in rank order.
- The top 50% (or top three (3), whichever is greater) of qualified applicants on the eligibility list shall advance to the Chief's Interview. If less than three (3) applicants are placed on the eligibility list, each qualified applicant shall advance to the Chief's Interview.
- Applicants must achieve a passing score of 70% on the Chief's Interview to be considered for promotion.
The following points will be assigned to each step of the promotional process to determine an applicant's final score:
Written Examination – 30 points.
- Structured Oral Interview – 30 points.
- Education and Experience – 5 points.
- Job Performance – 5 points.
Chief's Interview – 30 points.
Scores from all components will then be tabulated to determine the applicants' final ratings, at which point Human Resources will certify up to fifteen (15) candidates from the Eligibility List for the position Certification List.
Eligibility List
- Candidates must meet all qualifications and pass all examination components to be added to the Eligibility List.
- Eligibility lasts for one year for the Sergeant position (unless the list is canceled or examination procedures are revised). Written exam scores will remain active for two years, unless the candidate decides to retake the exam.
- The Eligibility List may be utilized to fill similar law enforcement positions that become vacant.

BENEFITS:
This is a full-time position working 168 hours per 28-day cycle OR 40 hours per week, depending on the specific position. Following the completion of the testing process, applicants will be contacted by Human Resources via email regarding their status and next steps. The results of the exam may take up to 7 business days. Those who pass the Written Exam will be scheduled for Structured Oral Interviews.
Structured Oral Interviews
- Structured Oral Interviews will be scheduled for Wednesday, January 21, 2026
- Chief's Interviews will be scheduled for Wednesday, January 28, 2026
These will both take place at the St. Charles County Police Department, 101 Sheriff Dierker Court, O'Fallon, MO Applicants will be notified of their scheduled interview appointments.
