Job Summary

This position involves the provision of intermediate to advanced academic/instructional support to students (one-on-one and small groups up to five people) in one or more content areas within the Computer Information Systems (CIS) field (including, but not limited to programming, database administration, networking and web development). This position will take place at the Mesa Community College (MCC) Southern and Dobson campus. Other positional duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

• Provides intermediate to advanced one-on-one and small group academic services, online and/or in-person for the CIS department
• Provides assistance to other lab assistants as needed
• Provides courteous customer service in person and virtually
• Maintains professionalism including punctuality and effective communication
• Access to the following academic platform: Cranium Cafe
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and some college
• Successful completion (B letter grade or higher) of Computer Information Systems/Information Technology courses such as CIS105: Survey of Computer Information Systems or BPC110: Computer Usage and Applications.
• Experience with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Power Point)

• Competency in some or of all of the following areas:

• Programming (Java, Python, C#, R)

• Databases (SQL, MySQL, MongoDB)
• Visualizations (Tableau, Power BI)
• Experience establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.

Desired Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Computer Science or CIS and/or equivalent (at least 50 credits completed at an accredited institution)
• Experience assisting students with Computer science and/or CIS course work/assignments.
• Achieved a minimum of a B letter grade in at least two of the following courses from the programs listed below:
• Programming / Data Analytics / Mobile Applications

Network Academy / A+ / Apple / Cisco / Linux / Microsoft / Cloud AWS

• Willing to work morning, afternoon and/or evening hours
• Willing to learn new tools and programs
• Candidates with experience strongly preferred

Special Working Conditions

• May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
• May be required to lift or carry up to 25 pounds.
