Polysomnograph Technician Physician Practice

The Polysomnographic Technician of Franciscan performs diagnostic and therapeutic sleep tests. This position reviews patient clinical history and verifies physician orders for testing. This position educates patients and their families regarding procedures, monitors physiological response, and seeks guidance on therapeutic intervention. Polysomnographic Technician participates in data analysis to gain the expertise and skills to optimize performance.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

• Machine Maintenance Maintains cleanliness of patient room and equipment, and prepares and calibrates equipment needed for testing.
• Patient Education Educates patients and their families regarding the testing and analysis procedures to be performed on the patient.
• Medical Equipment Calibrates, tests, and operates polysomnography instrumentation to ensure all equipment is working properly throughout the observation process.
• PSG Procedures Performs polysomnographic (PSG) procedures on patients, monitors, and records key health indicators during sleep studies.
• Reporting Analyzes procedure data and prepares reports for physicians used to diagnose the patient's condition and develop a treatment strategy.
• Therapeutic Intervention Performs therapeutic interventions including playing a role in patient care, comfort, and education as well as ensuring patients understand their treatment plans and responds to critical events when necessary.
• Documentation Observes and documents patient characteristics that aid physicians in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders.
• Post-Procedure and Discharge Provides post-procedure care and develops discharge plans, identifying the post-discharge needs of the patient and target appropriate resources for follow-up care.
• Physicians' Orders and Patients' Histories Reviews physicians' orders and patients' histories in order to appropriately direct patient care.
• Oversight by Registered Polysomnographic Technologist Requires oversight by a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT).

QUALIFICATIONS

• Required High School Diploma/GED
• Required Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association
• Preferred Associate's Degree Electroneurodiagnostic Technology
• Preferred Professional/Vocational/Trade Training Graduate of PSG Program
• Preferred 1 year Polysomnography
• Preferred 1 year EEG Technician
• Preferred 1 year Respiratory Therapy
• Preferred 1 year Sleep Testing Experience
