DepartmentBSD BMD - Rathmell Lab OperationsAbout the DepartmentThe Ben May Department for Cancer Research was formally established in 1951 with funds provided by Alabama businessman and philanthropist Ben May. The work done by the collection of laboratories within the Ben May Department for Cancer Research is focused on understanding tumor biology and various aspects of the tumor microenvironment; this research work has advanced cancer treatment by providing answers to fundamental biological questions and by finding applications for groundbreaking scientific discoveries.The Rathmell Lab uses human samples and animal models to study metabolism and how metabolic pathways affect immune cells and anti-tumor immunity. Emphasis areas for the lab include examining the link between obesity and cancer and understanding metabolic stress responses that may limit or shape anti-tumor immunity.Job SummaryThe Research Analyst performs research experiments culturing and analyzing T cells using basic immunological techniques. In addition, this position will also assist other post-doctoral fellows and graduate students in their research projects and provide logistical support for the Rathmell Lab, such as ordering and maintaining supplies.ResponsibilitiesMaintains technical and administrative support for a research project.Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.Maintains recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support.
