Job Overview

Paws with Claws is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Caretaker to join our team at our dog and cat boarding and daycare facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for animal welfare and the ability to provide exceptional care for a variety of animals. The Animal Caretaker will be responsible for ensuring the well-being of the animals in our care by providing high-quality, hands-on care, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and supporting the facility's operational needs.

This position location is Paws with Claws Pet Spa & Resort Ahwatukee, Phoenix, Arizona

Key Responsibilities:

  • Animal Care: Feed, water, and provide enrichment for dogs and cats according to established schedules and dietary requirements. Administer medications as directed by a veterinarian or facility guidelines.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness of animal living areas, including kennels, play areas, and bedding. Perform regular sanitation tasks to ensure a hygienic environment and prevent the spread of disease. Refer to the end of day sheet closing duties.
  • Exercise and Socialization: Engage with animals through play, exercise, and social interaction to support their physical and emotional well-being. Monitor and manage group interactions to ensure safe and positive experiences.
  • Health Monitoring: Observe and report any signs of illness, injury, or behavioral changes in animals to the supervisor. Assist with routine health checks and follow protocols for handling sick or injured animals.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of animal care, including feeding schedules, medical treatments, and behavior observations. Ensure all documentation is up-to-date and properly filed.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent service to pet owners by addressing their questions and concerns and offering updates on their pets' well-being. Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor in all interactions.
  • Facility Operations: Assist with general facility operations including check-ins, check-outs, and client communication through phone, text, or in person. Support other staff members as needed and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Assist with animal restraint during grooming and examinations.
  • Assist with other duties that may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years old or older. High school diploma or equivalent not required but is an advantage. Additional coursework or certification in animal care or veterinary technology is a plus.
  • Previous experience working with dogs and cats, preferably in a boarding, daycare, grooming, or veterinary setting is great but on the job training is also available.
  • Knowledge of animal behavior, basic medical care, and hygiene practices.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Physical stamina to handle the demands of the role, including lifting and moving animals and equipment. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to handle animals of varying sizes and temperaments with patience and understanding.
  • The role may involve exposure to various weather conditions, animal waste, and cleaning agents.
  • Exposure to dogs and cats of different temperaments, there is possible bite and scratch risk.
  • A genuine love for animals and commitment to their care and welfare.

At this time looking for candidates that are looking for short morning shifts and evening shifts. Examples of typical shifts are 6 or 7 am-9 or 10 am. 5 or 7 pm-10 pm. Longer shifts may also be available for those with bather experience or for supervising doggy daycare.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $15.50 per hour starting pay, compensation can go up with experience, Usually to $17-18 per hour.
  • Flexible work schedule available: Full-time (30+ hours) and Part-time (Under 30 hours).

*Position requires to able to work on weekends and holidays, as needed.
