Purpose:

Sanctuary Recovery Centers is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care for individuals facing behavioral health and substance use challenges. The Therapist-Intern role offers graduate-level students an opportunity to gain supervised clinical experience while contributing to our mission of healing and recovery.

Position Summary:

The Therapist-Intern will assist licensed clinicians in delivering therapeutic services to clients in outpatient and residential settings. This role focuses on learning and applying counseling techniques, supporting treatment planning, and facilitating group and individual sessions under supervision. Interns will gain exposure to diverse populations and modalities, including trauma-informed care and co-occurring disorder treatment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Client Support:
  • Assist in conducting intake assessments and gathering psychosocial histories.
  • Support development of individualized treatment plans under clinical supervision.
  • Therapeutic Services:
  • Co-facilitate group therapy sessions using structured curricula.
  • Observe and participate in individual counseling sessions as appropriate.
  • DocumentationCompliance:
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with agency policies.
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and ethical standards.
  • Collaboration:
  • Work closely with licensed therapists, case managers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in staff meetings and clinical supervision sessions.
  • Professional Development:
  • Engage in ongoing learning about therapeutic modalities such as CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing.
  • Reflect on clinical experiences to enhance counseling skills and cultural competence.
Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a Master's program in Counseling, Social Work, or related behavioral health field.
  • Completion of foundational coursework in counseling theories and ethics.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and empathy in challenging situations.
  • Fingerprint clearance card and background check required.
Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care and substance use treatment approaches.
  • Experience in group facilitation or client engagement (academic or volunteer).
  • Basic knowledge of clinical documentation standards.
ScheduleSupervision:
  • Flexible schedule based on academic requirements and agency needs.
  • Direct supervision provided by a licensed clinician in compliance with state and university guidelines.
