Position SummaryBlackhawk Country Club is hiring a part-time Swim Instructor. We are seeking energetic, positive role models with experience in teaching swim lessons. Our program serves children aged 6 months to 10 years. Onsite training will be provided at the time of hire. Schedules are flexible and will be arranged with your supervisor, with most classes typically held after school hours between 2-6pm.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Teach learn-to-swim, beginner, and intermediate lessons in both 1:1 and small group formats. Adapt teaching methods to accommodate the age, experience, and abilities of participants, helping them achieve their objectives. Communicate regularly with participants and their guardians to keep them informed of progress. Maintain a clean and safe teaching area. Collaborate with others to provide care in emergency situations, both in and out of the water. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Experience in teaching swim lessons is preferred. Instructors may need to shadow and/or co-teach before leading lessons independently. Experience as a certified lifeguard, swimming instructor, youth sports instructor/coach, camp counselor, or childcare provider is a plus. Passion for working with children and seeing them progress. Swimming Proficiency: Ability to swim continuously for extended periods and perform various swim strokes with proficiency. Physical Stamina: Capability to stand, walk, or move around the pool deck for extended periods. Strength and Endurance: Ability to assist or lift swimmers as needed, including potentially lifting or carrying swim equipment. Agility: Capability to move quickly and react promptly in emergency situations, including getting into and out of the pool efficiently. Manual Dexterity: Ability to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills, such as demonstrating swim techniques and handling swim equipment. Hearing and Vision: Adequate hearing and vision to monitor swimmers, identify potential issues, and respond to verbal instructions and signals. Comfort in Water: Ability to work comfortably in a swimming pool environment. Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with swimmers and parents, which may require speaking loudly and clearly over pool noise. Flexibility: Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed for swim lessons.WORK ENVIRONMENTOutdoor Setting: The work is performed in the pool or on the pool deck at an outdoor pool. Temperature: The pool is heated, and the temperature maintained at 81 degrees. However, the outdoor work environment may vary in temperature, depending on the season. Noise Level: The work environment can be fast-paced and may involve moderate to high levels of noise from members using the pool. Interaction: Regular interaction with members and staff is common, requiring effective communication, interpersonal skills, and diplomacy. Safety: Adherence to health and safety protocols, including the pool's emergency action plan.
