Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing payroll processes, ensuring accuracy in payroll calculations, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. This role requires a strong understanding of payroll systems and accounting principles, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various departments.
Duties
- Process payroll for employees accurately and on time using various payroll systems such as Workday, Paychex, ADP, or UltiPro.
- Maintain employee records and ensure all payroll data is up-to-date, including new hires, terminations, and changes in pay rates.
- Conduct regular audits of payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Handle benefits administration and ensure proper deductions are made for health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits.
- Collaborate with the HR department to resolve any payroll-related inquiries or discrepancies.
- Prepare reports related to payroll expenses, tax liabilities, and other financial metrics as needed.
- Assist in the reconciliation of accounts payable and accounts receivable related to payroll transactions.
- Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations that may affect payroll processing.
Skills
- Proficient in payroll management software such as QuickBooks, Kronos, Ceridian, or PeopleSoft.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles including double entry bookkeeping, general ledger accounting, debits & credits, journal entries, and account reconciliation.
- Experience with HRIS systems for managing employee data effectively.
- Knowledge of financial concepts related to governmental accounting and non-profit accounting is a plus.
- Excellent data entry skills with a high level of accuracy (10 key typing).
- Strong analytical skills to interpret financial data and generate meaningful reports.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Familiarity with benefits administration processes and tax experience is advantageous.
