Position Description:
The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures. This position is located at Froedtert/MCW Benign Hematology clinic at FMLH with clinic coverage at other Froedtert locations as needed.
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients of the outpatient services as a member of the Department of Medicine/Division of Hematology and Oncology.
The APP will have a strong foundation in evidence based practice and ensure an environment of safe quality care.
In this role you will be responsible for the following:
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring Hematology/Oncology intervention in outpatient environment as a member of the Benign Hematology outpatient service.
- Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders.
- Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
- Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Hematology/Oncology services.
- Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
- Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
- Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
- Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
- Participates in ongoing clinical research projects related to the field of hematology/oncology.
Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities:
- Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
- Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
- Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
- Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
- Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
- Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
- Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
- Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.

Preferred Schedule:
Monday- Friday, 8:00-5:00; Weekend rotations required.
Position Requirements:
Preferred Experience: Five-year experience as a Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner with at least 1-2 years in a clinic or hospital environment working with chemotherapy or hematology/oncology/BMT patients.
Minimum Education:
Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies

- Wisconsin Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber License
- Certification as Advance Practice Nurse
- Certification as Acute Care NP and/or Certified Nurse Specialist preferred

- CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire
- ACLS Certification preferred
- DEA
Physician Assistant
