Englewood, Colorado, United States Jobs via Dice Full time

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Kforce has a client in Englewood, CO that is seeking a mid- to senior-level Network & CPE Engineer to support production Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) environments and perform in-depth troubleshooting across DOCSIS, PON, and Wi-Fi firmware platforms. This role focuses on escalation support, root cause analysis (RCA), and collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams to diagnose and resolve complex network and device-level issues.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working through high-impact incidents, analyzing logs and firmware behavior, and understanding the interaction between access networks and CPE devices in real-world deployments. They enjoy solving complex technical problems, digging into logs and firmware behavior, and understanding how networks and customer devices interact. They are methodical, collaborative, and focused on identifying real root causes rather than quick workarounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform production CPE Root Cause Analysis (RCA) across DOCSIS, PON, and Wi-Fi firmware environments
  • Troubleshoot complex modem, router, mesh Wi-Fi, and access-network-related issues
  • Analyze firmware, system, and network logs to identify fault conditions and message flows
  • Support escalation troubleshooting (P1/P2 incidents), including lab replication and validation of fixes
  • Test and validate firmware, configuration changes, and engineering builds prior to deployment
  • Collaborate with internal engineering, operations, and vendor teams to identify defects and drive resolution
  • Manage escalation tickets through resolution, ensuring fixes address underlying root causes
  • Build, maintain, and validate network test labs (switches, PDUs, modems, ONUs, CPE devices)
  • Assess existing network technologies to identify performance, stability, and capacity gaps
  • Provide recommendations to optimize network architecture, reliability, and operational processes

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5-10+ years of relevant experience in network engineering, CPE support, or related technical roles
  • Mid-level candidates should demonstrate strong troubleshooting skills and hands-on experience
  • Senior-level candidates should bring deep RCA expertise, escalation leadership, and cross-team collaboration experience
  • Experience with PON technologies and working knowledge of DOCSIS
  • Hands-on CPE experience (modems, routers, Wi-Fi gateways, set-top boxes)
  • Exposure to CMTS/iCMTS or equivalent access network platforms
  • Experience supporting escalation-level troubleshooting and RCA efforts
  • Strong Linux experience (Bash, SSH, jump boxes)
  • Scripting experience with Python, Perl, and/or Shell
  • Solid understanding of routing and switching fundamentals
  • Experience with device configuration files and firmware/log analysis
  • Ability to interpret firmware and network logs and understand message flow behavior

Preferred/Nice to have:

  • Experience with mesh Wi-Fi systems
  • Lab build, validation, or test-environment experience
  • Knowledge of advanced routing or multicast protocols (IPv4/IPv6)
  • Experience with SQL databases and REST APIs
  • Prior experience collaborating with hardware or software vendors

Technical Environment:

  • DOCSIS and PON access technologies
  • CPE devices and Wi-Fi firmware platforms
  • Linux environments (Bash configuration, SSH key authentication, developer tooling)
  • Python, Perl, Shell, SQL, REST APIs
