Project Accountant is responsible for reviewing and analyzing financial performance for construction projects, comparing actual results to budgets and forecasts. This role maintains the percentage-of-completion schedule for installation-related revenue and collaborates with teams across the organization to track, report, and manage key financial and operational metrics. The position supports the business unit by identifying issues, anticipating needs, and helping drive informed decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Serve in an audit capacity for project-related accounting activities.
  • Prepare cost estimates for new and proposed construction projects.
  • Gather and analyze financial data to monitor project spending.
  • Create and maintain cost management documents for project planning and closeout.
  • Organize and maintain documentation and statistical data for cost analysis.
  • Secure accounting-related documents including financial statements, journal entries, checks, and invoices.
  • Assist with monthly budgeting and forecasting to ensure installation job costs align with financial expectations.
  • Provide financial guidance and recommendations to management.
  • Prepare detailed cost reports identifying key factors influencing project expenses.
  • Review and evaluate change order requests.
  • Prepare monthly sales analyses for commission calculations.
  • Analyze job cost performance and evaluate financial outcomes for each project.
  • Conduct variance analysis and explain deviations from budgeted results.
  • Improve processes to ensure timely and accurate posting and reporting of financial data.
  • Ensure data integrity between sub-ledgers, ERP systems, and SAP.
  • Develop tools and reporting solutions to support strategic and monthly reporting needs.
  • Complete ad-hoc financial and non-financial reporting as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
  • Follow accounting policies and comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Cross-train team members to support continuity of critical responsibilities.
  • Participate in ongoing training and educational opportunities.
  • Document workflows and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Training

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, ideally in Accounting or Finance.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of finance or accounting experience.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Experience working with databases is a plus.
  • Intermediate Excel skills required.
  • Experience in manufacturing or construction is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based.
  • Minimal travel (less than 10%).

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and move throughout the facility.
