The Division has a workforce of over 600, with 100 staff and 500 faculty, and is known for outstanding research, teaching and patient care.
Our clinical work spans 9 outpatient clinics at HMC and UWMC, across neighborhood clinics located throughout Puget Sound, and inpatient care at 4 hospitals in Seattle.
GIM is the largest division in the Department of Medicine and includes both clinical and research functions with a total annual budget of over $110m. Faculty and staff are spread over 10+ sites around Seattle and the Puget Sound as well as in Boise, Idaho.
The Department of Medicine, Division of GIM, has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Research Coordinator 2. The Research Coordinator 2 will work under the supervision of Principal Investigators in the Division of General Internal Medicine to coordinate activities for NIH supported research projects at the intersection of alcohol, tobacco and other substance use and HIV and other comorbidities. Current research projects include: (1) an NIH-NIAAA P01 the Alcohol Research Consortium in HIV which includes and administrative core and an implementation research study integrating alcohol treatment into HIV clinical settings (2) a study integrating alcohol treatment into HIV and TB care in India (3) other projects related integration of substance use care into primary care, HIV and other clinical settings using technology.
The person in this position will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day research activities for the development, implementation, and coordination of the research program in collaboration with the Principal Investigators. Activities include: securing human subject approvals, developing data collection instruments, collecting and managing data, helping investigators interpret data, and disseminating results.
The position requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, and strong communication skills. The candidate who fills this position will work closely with several research team members and community partners to coordinate and support complex projects, with multiple goals and support requirements. This position will require a talent for multi-tasking and prioritizing, to support the main projects.
The position is directly related to the UW Department of Medicine and UW objectives of education, research, and community service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Research Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day research activities in the development, implementation, and coordination of the research program to ensure completion of the goals of the studies. Specifically, through collaboration with and under the guidance of investigators, this position will:
Research Tasks (75%):
- Collaborate on the development of research materials and forms, including consent and recruitment materials, intervention materials, data collection instruments, and other assessment materials
- Prepare and submit IRB applications, IRB modification requests, and annual IRB renewal paperwork. Monitor research activities (e.g., recruitment, screening, and consent) for compliance with IRB and sponsor requirements.
- Develop and use research management systems (such as RedCap or other databases) to monitor and manage collected data and perform quality control checks to ensure data quality
- Conduct data collection and human subjects research activities (e.g., moderate focus groups, conduct qualitative interviews, etc.) )
- Analyze and summarize quantitative and qualitative data: code qualitative data, clean quantitative datasets, and provide data reports, etc.
- Contribute to the preparation and submission of manuscripts, presentations, and abstracts
Project Management Tasks (25%):
- Manage and coordinate research activities to ensure alignment with scope, timelines, and budget.
- Draft study manual of operations as needed
- Assist with drafting and submission of annual progress reports to NIH and other Federal Agencies
- Collaborate with all key partners and research team members: maintain open, timely, and accurate communication with all internal and external stakeholders about developments, changes, and/or new directions and deliverables; communicate priorities, goals, and resources
- Coordinate and participate in investigator, research team, and partner meetings: develop agendas, take meeting minutes, and track action items.
Lead Responsibilities:
- This person will collect, manage, and analyze data. They will also coordinate efforts on several research projects funded by federal grants; ensuring timelines are adhered to, study goals are met, and research activities are compliant with IRB and sponsor requirements.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent organizational skills, including independently managing multiple tasks while ensuring attention to detail, accuracy, and quality results
- Strong project and time management skills
- Experience developing research materials
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently as part of a team with limited supervision
- Excellent writing and communication skills, particularly in the context of collaborating and coordinating with a variety of stakeholders and people from diverse backgrounds
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in public health, health sciences, or related fields
- Demonstrated commitment to working in the field of substance use or addiction treatment
- Experience in qualitative and quantitative research and data collection
- Experience developing and submitting Institutional Review Board (IRB) proposal and modification requests
- Skills in REDCap or other software for data capture and organization
- Experience with or comparable qualitative analysis software (e.g., Dedoose, NVivo)
