Job Overview

Michigan Fine Yarns is seeking a friendly, reliable, and customer-focused Retail Sales Associate to support our in-store team part-time. This is a front-facing role that blends customer service with day-to-day shop operations, ideal for someone who enjoys working with people in a creative, community-driven retail environment.

An interest in knitting, crochet, fiber arts, or handmade goods is important. You do not need to be an expert knitter or crocheter. Training is provided.

This role contributes directly to creating a welcoming, inspiring shopping experience for our customers.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Experience

  • Greet and assist customers with warmth, patience, and professionalism
  • Help customers select yarns, tools, notions, and gifts
  • Answer basic questions about fibers, weights, and project suitability (training provided)
  • Create a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive in-store experience

Sales & Checkout

  • Accurately process transactions using our POS system
  • Wind yarn using a swift and ball winder
  • Assist with returns and basic customer inquiries

Store Operations & Floor Support

  • Restock yarn, tools, and notions to keep shelves full and shoppable
  • Receive and put away incoming inventory following store guidelines
  • Maintain organized, tidy, and visually appealing sales floors
  • Straighten shelves, rotate stock, and support light merchandising tasks
  • Flag low-stock items or floor issues to the team
  • Assist with seasonal resets, events, and busy weekends

Qualifications

  • Friendly, dependable, and customer-oriented
  • Comfortable engaging one-on-one with customers
  • Interest in knitting, crochet, fiber arts, or handmade crafts
  • Willingness to learn products, fibers, and shop systems
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable using technology and POS systems
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light lifting
  • Availability for weekends and select weekdays (required)

Retail or crafting experience is a plus, but not required.
