**Paid Community Service Opportunity**

The Idaho HealthCorps (IHC) AmeriCorps program partners community members with non-profits across Idaho. These community members serve in paid volunteer positions called AmeriCorps positions. These positions offer community members the opportunity to receive support while volunteering with their favorite non-profit. The opportunity is offered each year from Sept 1- Aug 31. The IHC program focuses on health education, health screenings , and promotion of overall health.

The AmeriCorps member will serve with the Meridian Fire Department as a Risk Reduction Technician, a vital role dedicated to enhancing public safety and improving community health outcomes through education, prevention, and direct outreach. This role directly supports priority populations while helping improve health outcomes and population well-being. This position combines fire safety initiatives with community education, supporting priority populations and contributing to safer, healthier home environments. Members gain valuable professional skills and experience in safety prevention education, nonprofit operations, and engagement. Members do not participate in prohibited activities. Members do not supplement, duplicate, or displace staff members at the City of Meridian Fire Department. Members with this program have recurring access to vulnerable populations.

Fire Safety, Risk Reduction, and Health Education:

Conduct regular inspections, testing, and maintenance of residential smoke alarms

Educate residents on fire safety practices, alarm placement, and ongoing maintenance and the correlation between healthy living and fire safety

Participate in outreach initiatives such as door-to-door campaigns and collaborate with local organizations to identify households in need

Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, monitor inventory, and assist in broader fire prevention programs

Support public health by helping at-risk populations maintain safe living environments

Program Support:

Assist with community needs assessments and outreach efforts

Maintain detailed service logs and contribute to program evaluation through qualitative analysis and reporting

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Must be a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident

  • Pass a background check

  • Complete 900 hours of service between enrollment and 8/31/2026

  • Participate in required training and service events

  • Avoid Prohibited Activities during service

BENEFITS:
