Typical Task:
- Conduct citywide mosquito control to support public health and recreation.
- Perform general pest control using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for pests like mosquitoes, flies, rats, snakes, and wasps.
- Apply herbicides to control vegetation and reduce rodent harborage; assist with drainage maintenance, especially during rain/flood events.
- Maintain reliable, punctual attendance and complete other related duties as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or successful completion of GED.
Experience in the pest control industry preferred.
Must possess a Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services license for Category # 60 (Registered Technician).
- Must possess a Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services license for Category #8 (Public Health) or obtain one within 180 days of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to make routine decisions independently.
- The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
