Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our litigation team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of litigation support and insurance defense. This candidate must be able to do dictation and type from a transcription machine, formulate pleadings and be able to proof read work and support senior attorneys, and other support staff members ensuring the efficient management of legal documents and cases. This candidate must also be familiar with outlook calendars and scheduling depositions and mediations. We are seeking someone with at least 2-3 years of legal experience in a legal environment who is detail oriented, a quick learner and a team player.

Duties

  • Must be familiar with dictation, and able to execute dictation from a transcription machine and type pleadings, letters and client reports.
  • Assist senior attorneys in preparing legal documents, including discovery pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • File pleadings electronically with different courts both State and Federal.
  • Maintain calendars and deadlines.
  • Proofread legal documents for accuracy and compliance with local rules.
  • Perform clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, managing calendars, scheduling depositions and filing documents.
  • Support attorneys and help with trial preparation by organizing exhibits and preparing trial binders.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of local rules, filing pleadings and working in a legal environment.
  • Proficiency in managing documents, pleadings, and investigative materials.
  • Excellent proofreading skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
  • Prior experience in a legal setting is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and execute tasks and assignments.
  • Must be able to type quickly and efficiently and make sure the information is correct and accurate.
