The Britannia Tearooms in San Diego, CA is looking for a "kitchen all-rounder." This person would act as an expo/prep cook, they would also act as an assistant to the savory department, and they would make scone dough for both of our businesses. We envision this person working on the line by heating and plating food for tearoom service two days a week, and making scone dough two days a week.

This position would act as a line cook for service, get food plated and out the window in a timely manner, prep salads & soups as needed, and help build desserts if needed for tearoom service. We have 4 sittings a day and our business is largely reservation based, although assistant line cook may also need to help with to-go orders or food prep, if needed.

Desired Schedule: We currently need someone to work on Mondays from 9 am-5pm, & Tuesdays from 11-7 as an expo/prep cook on the line. And we need someone to work Wednesday & Thursday from 9 - 5 as a scone dough maker.

We are located in Point Loma, close to Old Town and Sports Arena. We are a British tearoom & bakery, and we make all our food items in house - the assistant prep cook helps to prepare the food that we serve each day. We have been in business for over 20 years.

Our ideal candidate must be organized, hard-working and reliable. Communication skills are essential - this position must commicate daily with the general manager. Kitchen experience and/or culinary schooling is necessary. Approximately 28-32 hours per week. MUST be able to work Monday & Tuesday for the line, the scone shifts can be flexible.

Base wage ($19 an hour to start) plus tips can be earned. Here, on average the total tips earned are $4-8 an hour on top of your base wage.

Responsibilities

  • Baking off food items for tearoom service each morning as needed.
  • Ensuring the correct preparation of gluten free and vegan food items. Also plating dietary restrictions to avoid cross-contamination for each service.
  • Preparing and plating starters (i.e. soups or salads) and the savory food items for tearoom service.
  • During downtime, help with making chicken salad, flavored cream cheeses, soup, mustards, salad dressings, etc.
  • Making & boxing afternoon teas to-go
  • Baking scones, sausage rolls, and savory pastries for orders.
  • Making various flavors of scone doughs and helping with scone inventory.
  • Keeping spaces clean, doing dishes, and other basic kitchen requirements.
  • Putting the sysco & specialty produce orders away.

Qualifications

  • At least one year's kitchen/line cook experience in a business and/or culinary school training is preferred. We do extensive training. This job could be perfect for anyone with common sense, attention to detail, organizational skills.
