General Statement of Duties
The duties of the high school softball coach include organizing practices, developing game strategies, training players, ensuring safety, collaborating with stakeholders, promoting sportsmanship, managing administrative tasks, providing guidance to student-athletes, and fostering an inclusive environment for all players.

Essential Duties
The duties of the head high school softball coach include:

  • Developing and implementing practice plans to enhance players' skills and performance.
  • Creating game strategies and providing leadership during matches.
  • Mentoring and training players to improve their technique, physical conditioning, and teamwork.
  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of the players during practices and games.
  • Collaborating with school administrators, parents, and league officials to coordinate team activities and schedules.
  • Cultivating sportsmanship, discipline, and a positive team culture among the players.
  • Managing administrative tasks such as budgeting, equipment procurement, and team logistics.
  • Providing guidance and support to student-athletes to help them balance their academic and athletic commitments.
  • Fostering an inclusive environment for all players, regardless of skill level.
  • Maintain compliance with the rules and regulations of the Virginia High School League (VHSL).
  • Support the district's and the school's expectations regarding student academic performance and sportsmanship.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous coaching experience, knowledge of the game of softball, and current understanding of coaching techniques and strategies.
  • Prior coaching experience with strong leadership and organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes.
  • Coaches with prior college experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
