TDC Bus Driver

Position Status: Part Time Hourly

Classification: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

The Bus Driver is responsible for transporting passengers, including school aged children, to and from program activities and other sites within designated route(s) and to ensure the safety of all passengers while in and around the vehicle.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Drives an assigned vehicle within a prescribe route(s) in accordance with time schedules.
  • Picks up and discharges passengers at designated stops.
  • Operates a special ramp bus; loads and unloads students in wheelchairs on and off bus, inspecting
  • wheelchair for operational safety; operates ramp; positions and secures wheelchair in bus.
  • Transports passengers on field trips to various locations; planning necessary route(s) and
  • stops as needed
  • Maintains order and proper discipline of student passengers according to district policy.
  • Conducts safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily.
  • Reports needed mechanical repairs when necessary.
  • Services buses with gas and diesel fuel; checks and when necessary fills tires and batteries.
  • Maintains cleanliness of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition.
  • Completes periodic mileage and other reports including passenger counts.
  • Attends various meetings regarding safety, first aid and training updates as required.
  • Attends driver training programs to maintain current knowledge of Oklahoma Motor Vehicle
  • Performs related duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License with both an S (school bus) and P (passenger) endorsements.
  • Clear and safe driving record.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid practices, procedures, and techniques
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices
  • Ability to read, write, understand and carry out instructions and communicate at a level necessary to successfully perform the required duties.
  • Sound judgement
  • Flexible hours for availability (including evenings and weekends).
  • Positive customer-oriented attitude and professional image.

Physical Requirements
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
  • Constantly lift and or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequently exposed to loud noise levels; fumes or airborne particles; noxious odors; vibrations from driving a bus; and traffic.
  • Considerable use of arms, legs and whole body; Sitting, climbing, bending, stoop and kneel; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; use foot controls to drive.
  • Sighted with capacity for both color and distance.
  • Full range of hearing.
  • Occasional climate extremes of hot or cold.
  • Proficient in oral and written communications.
