Position Overview

In addition to the job requirements of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacist-in-Charge is responsible for leading compliance activities and directing pharmacy activities so that the objectives and compliance of the pharmacy are consistently and successfully achieved with patient care, and team engagement at the forefront of their attention. The PIC is customer facing role, which will interact and help advise Directors of Nursing from partnered facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

The Pharmacist is responsible for providing pharmacy services to patients of the pharmacy.

  1. Establish goals for the pharmacy in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Compliance Officer.

  2. Monitor progress towards these goals on a consistent basis, and report results to the Chief Executive Officer

  3. Develop and implement plans for the pharmacy growth initiatives.

  4. Advise supervisor in the finances and budget of the pharmacy.

  5. Oversee the pharmacy services of the pharmacy, including monitoring internal pharmacy processes and operations.

  6. Hold clinicians accountable to the organization for decisions affecting consumers.

  7. Conduct meetings with members of the pharmacy staff at regular intervals.

  8. Maintain ongoing liaison with all pharmacy staff members in order to obtain their cooperation toward the achievement of the goals of the pharmacy.

  9. Consult with practitioners in the field as needed to improve organization processes and patient outcomes.

  10. Ensure ongoing pharmacy compliance with all laws and regulations; ensure that the pharmacy meets or exceeds accreditation standards; and implement ''best practices'' in department activities.

  11. Delegate authority as necessary to ensure that all responsibilities of this position and pharmacy operations are fulfilled in a timely and accurate manner.

  12. Perform pharmacist duties as needed (see Pharmacist job description).

  13. Participate in surveys conducted by authorized inspection agencies. Initiate appropriate actions on reports and recommendations provided by authorized inspection agencies.

  14. Participate in the pharmacy's Performance Improvement program as requested by the Performance Improvement Coordinator.

  15. Participate in membership activities of professional and industry organizations.

  16. Participate in pharmacy committees when requested.

  17. Participate in training / education programs provided by the pharmacy.

  18. Pursue continuing education programs appropriate to job responsibilities and license requirements.

  19. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Current registration and licensure in California as a pharmacist.

  2. Ability to work with Pharmacist to increase their knowledge.

  3. Ability to organize and plan the activities of subordinates, and to delegate appropriately.

  4. Organizational skills are sufficient to maintain consistently accurate records.

  5. Ability to evaluate options and to make efficient decisions with patient care and outcome at the forefront of attention.

  6. Current knowledge of all applicable State and Federal pharmacy laws, rules, and regulations.

  7. Computer skills that include proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing and efficient use of the internet and e-mail.

  8. 1 to 2 years experience within Long-Term, Retail, or Specialty Pharmacy.

Preferred:

  1. 2 years or more of experience within a Long-Term Care Pharmacy.
