Job PurposeWe are seeking a qualified Distribution Design Supervisor to join our team. This role focuses on overseeing and supporting the design team in the development of electric utility distribution systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge, leadership abilities, and a collaborative mindset to ensure the success of the design team and their projects.
Key Accountabilities- Oversee and support a team of distribution designers in developing designs and complete construction packages for overhead and underground electric utility distribution systems.
- Provide guidance, technical assistance, and problem-solving support to designers throughout project lifecycles.
- Review and approve designs to ensure compliance with industry standards, company policies, and customer requirements.
- Manage team resources, schedules, and priorities to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Conduct regular check-ins with team members to track progress and address challenges.
- Interface with clients, contractors, or other stakeholders such as local inspection authorities, other public utilities, governmental agencies, public leaders, and regulatory agencies such as the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) as necessary.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth project workflows and resolve issues promptly.
- Provide mentorship and training to designers to support their professional growth.
- Collaborate with leadership to provide updates on project statuses, team performance, and resource needs.
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations and company quality standards.
- Lead and manage the daily activities of the design team, ensuring efficient and high-quality output.
- Assign tasks based on team members' skills and project requirements.
- Monitor performance and provide constructive feedback during evaluations.
- Participate in hiring decisions and onboarding for new team members.
- Promote a positive and supportive work environment that fosters teamwork and continuous improvement.
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering preferred.
- Alternatively, an Associate of Science degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, with 0–3 years of relevant experience, will also be considered.
- Candidates without a degree with 5–8 years of experience in distribution design.
- 5+ years of experience in electric utility distribution design or related fields.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Understanding of electric utility systems, including overhead and underground networks is preferred.
- Ability to guide and support a technical team in achieving project objectives.
- Proficiency in reviewing designs for accuracy and compliance with standards.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and delegate effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Commitment to fostering a positive and productive team environment.
- Experience with print reading and interpreting technical drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- AutoCAD experience preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including active listening and negotiation skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Salary: $95,000 - $112,000
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
