Position Summary

The Weigh Room Lead plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, safety, and efficiency of all weighing and material dispensing activities. Working closely with the Weigh Room Supervisor and/or Production Manager, this position provides daily operational leadership, technical support to include ERP system entries, and on-the-job training to weigh room associates. The Lead is responsible for maintaining adherence to cGMP standards, ensuring production readiness, and driving process consistency across shifts.

This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual who can effectively coordinate tasks, resolve issues, and uphold quality and documentation standards that support the company's production goals and Core Values.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Support

  • Coordinate and oversee daily weighing, labeling, staging, and documentation of raw materials per batch record and SOP requirements.
  • Verify material identity, accuracy of weights, and complete traceability throughout all dispensing activities.
  • Support the Weigh Room Supervisor in scheduling, prioritizing, and executing daily work to meet production demands.
  • Ensure balances, scales, and other weighing equipment are calibrated and functioning properly prior to use.
  • Monitor workflow to identify and correct inefficiencies, escalating issues as needed to maintain throughput and compliance.

Employee Guidance and Training

  • Provide hands-on direction, guidance, and performance feedback to weigh room employees.
  • Support the onboarding and ongoing training of employees on cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices), SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), GDP (Good Documentation Practices), and safety procedures.
  • Reinforce adherence to company policies and documentation standards; conduct refresher training as assigned.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Quality and Compliance

  • Ensure all operations align with cGMP, FDA, and internal quality standards.
  • Review batch records and associated documentation (both physical paper copies as well as electronic via ERP system) for completeness, legibility, and real-time accuracy.
  • Identify and report deviations, discrepancies, or equipment issues promptly to the Supervisor and/or Quality department.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready environment consistent with 5S and housekeeping standards.

Performance and KPI Achievement

  • Support the Supervisor in monitoring daily and weekly production metrics, including weighing accuracy, efficiency, and material yield.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and assist in implementing corrective or preventive actions.
  • Contribute to achieving departmental KPIs and monthly performance goals through consistent execution and leadership.

Safety and Housekeeping

  • Enforce adherence to all company safety policies, including PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) usage and LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) requirements.
  • Promptly report unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, or procedural concerns.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and contamination-free work area at all times.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in a cGMP-regulated manufacturing environment (pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, or pet supplement industry preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year in a lead, senior, or trainer within production or material dispensing operations.
  • Strong understanding of weighing, batching, raw material handling, and documentation protocols.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of cGMP, GDP, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation discipline.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to train and motivate team members while maintaining a positive, professional work environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and familiarity with ERP/manufacturing systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and make effective decisions in a fast-paced production environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, and pull over 50 lbs for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in a controlled manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, and with both powdered raw materials and liquid ingredients.
  • Must be able to wear all required PPE (lab coat, gloves, hairnet, safety glasses, face mask, safety shoes, etc.) while on the production floor.
