PREREQUISITES FOR EMPLOYMENT:

HOURS: Varies, part-time Mondays-Friday 8:30am-5pm with occasional weekends and holidays up to 40 hrs/week. Individuals planning to working under the Evanston Fire Department in a lifeguard position do not need to apply.
General Task Statement:
Responsible for the supervision and safety of all campers in the City of Evanston Aquatics Camp in the absence of full-time camp counselors.
Supervision:
Under the direct supervision of the Aquatic Camp Directors and Program Coordinator
Essential Function(s) – Task Statements:
- Ability to work various days subbing as an aquatic camp counselor as needed during (9) weeks of camp from June 9-August 8.
- Adheres to staff policies including but not limited to time off request, attendance, and uniform policies.
- Know and enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to the Evanston Lakefront
- Use proper surveillance techniques to guard the swimming area
- Identify patrons in need of emergency assistance and respond appropriately
- Maintain safe environment and supervise all campers
- Know and adhere to all boating regulations and safety measures
- Conduct camp and teach all designated lesson plans
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled by Aquatic Camp Director or program coordinator
- Responsible for effective and appropriate communication to patrons and camp parents
- Maintain a clean and safe beach and office environment
- Responsible for care and maintenance of equipment and storage areas
- Complete written reports such as accident, incident, and the like on a timely basis
- Communicate to supervisor(s) if there are problems or issues needing special attention.
- Performs other reasonable duties as assigned by supervisor
- Knowledge and skills in basic sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and boat driving
- Assists with pre and post-season maintenance-related tasks as assigned
Specifications:
- Minimum Reasoning ability usually associated with this classification:

Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions such as rain, high temperatures, and humidity. Work environment includes beaches, recreation centers, multipurpose rooms, swimming pools, athletic fields, parks, playgrounds, and office space.

The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions approximately 5% of
the time and outside work 95% of the time with no effective protection from
weather conditions or temperature changes.
