Summary

JOB SUMMARY:

Under moderate supervision, performs patient and/or specimen registrations. Serves as the front line representative of the department and acts as a resource for patients and their families.

• Serves as a liaison between the Hospital and the patient according to the patient's needs.
• Communicates effectively with patient, family, members of patient care team and other Hospital staff.
• Develops effective working relationships with customers, co-workers, and physicians and ensures that all customers receive exemplary service.
• Performs a complete patient registration accurately by interviewing the patient or responsible party to obtain demographic data, insurance coverage, nature of visit, etc., and simultaneously enters all data into the Hospital Information System.
• Assumes primary responsibility for the quality assurance of every registration and order.
• Thoroughly investigates and resolves discrepancies related to specimen collection and registration.
• Remains competent in performing current and new tasks.
• Processes pre-registrations efficiently on elective admissions/procedures to increase accuracy and to minimize patient wait time.
• Accurately performs additional duties including filing, copying, mailing, faxing results, sorting mail and computer requisitions, and distributing reports to the correct section.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Entry level knowledge; basic employment skills; High School diploma: GED equivalent or High School certificate.
• 1-2 years experience with patient registration and insurance verification (3+ years preferred).
• 1-2 years experience with customer service (3+ years preferred).
