Lake County is located two hours west of Denver in the heart of Colorado's highest peaks at 10,200 feet. There are about 7,000 people in Lake County, and Leadville is the main city. Many adults commute to work in the service industry in nearby ski areas. We have a strong history of mining, adventure recreation, and outdoor enthusiasm.
Lake County Elementary School consists of about 250 students in grades PreK-2 with three classroom teachers per grade.
Lake County Intermediate School consists of about 275 students in grades 3-6 with three classroom teachers per grade.
Compensation: Follows Certified Teacher Salary Schedule; EXCELLENT benefits included - medical, dental, vision and life insurance plus PTO days. FLSA: Exempt
Length of Assignment: Academic year: 179 teacher contract days, 162 student contact days. Majority of teaching days are on a 4 day work week beginning in August and ending in June.
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
- Teach a prescribed curriculum in: language arts (Amplify CKLA 3-5, Amplify ELA 6), mathematics (Eureka Math 3-6), phonics (HD Word, 3rd grade), social studies and science (Core Knowledge) and social/emotional skills (Second Step)
- Backwards unit planning as a collaborative team while maintaining an intentional focus on the standards and student achievement
- Regular reflection on instructional practices and how those practices relate to student achievement
- Develop engaging daily lesson plans aligned to prescribed curriculum and tied to Colorado State Standards
- Provide differentiated instruction based on linguistic, academic, and social-emotional needs and provide comprehensible instruction for all students
- Develop and teach intervention groups based on data
- Facilitate crew lessons during morning and afternoon crew time
- Build strong relationships with each student to foster a sense of Crew based on mutual trust and respect
- Adhere to the LCIS Common Classroom Expectations
- Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports
- Communicate with parents through conferences, email, notes, and in-person to discuss students' progress
- Develop READ plans and contribute to Individualized Education Programs development, as needed
- Collaborate with peers to identify and support the needs of the whole child
- Document learning through documentation panels and student portfolios
- Support student presentations of learning at Celebration of Learning
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day
- Administer interim assessments and standardized tests in accordance with testing programs (STAR, NWEA, CMAS)
- Maintain professional competencies by participating in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), Professional Development (PD), Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), Staff Meetings, and other collaborative teams for the benefit of the school
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree of related subject from accredited university
- Colorado Teaching License (or enrolled in an alternative licensure program)
- Demonstrated competency in the classroom
- Strong interpersonal skills and computer proficiency
- Experience with students who are multilingual
