Lead Mechanical Engineer – Mechanical Engineering Center of Excellence

What you'll achieve

In this position as a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will design, analyze, document and functionally validate mechanical components and assemblies.  You will also conduct and participate in engineering tests to validate the robustness and proper performance of new products. In this role, you will drive early innovation with suppliers that generate new features and intercept our platform schedules in time for low risk integration and interface with electrical engineering, manufacturing, quality, tooling engineering and other development groups to ensure the successful development and launch of new products.  The Lead ME will utilize best-in-class tools to develop innovative solutions to highly complex problems. You will be responsible for the mechanical detail design on assigned components and for testing, analysis and debuging on assigned mechanical prototypes. You will contribute to the successful management and development of mechanical tooling and first samples delivery, ensure that comprehensive qualification and subsequent tool revisions are completed and that deliverables are met per program schedules.

You will:

  • Develop and lead mechanical development strategies at product and portfolio levels, ensuring alignment across technical disciplines and leadership teams
  • Drive innovation by researching and integrating new technologies, partnering with internal teams and external providers to identify opportunities, assess risks, and secure intellectual property
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership throughout the design cycle, from front-end concept development to execution and sustaining phases
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to define product requirements, create customer-focused design concepts, and optimize designs using tools like 3D CAD, analysis, and SPC
  • Mentor and guide team members, fostering integration of mechanical strategies and ensuring excellence in implementation across disciplines

  • 15+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, with proven expertise in product design and optimization across multiple technical disciplines
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD systems, including concept modeling, production model interrogation, and clear communication of design ideas
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical simulations, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing-driven design, ensuring robust and efficient product development
  • Expert understanding of mechanical drawings, 3D databases, and statistical quality/process control methods, leveraging tools for precision and reliability
  • Demonstrated success in collaborating with external partners to deliver innovative solutions for enterprise and consumer products

Desirable Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years using Pro-E/ CREO and ANSY
  • Specialized in the design and analysis of electronics enclosures, with experience in PC, server, or similar product platforms or experience in developing intellectual property and patent generation

Compensation

Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this position is $198,050 - $256,300.
