Modrall Sperling, one of New Mexico's prominent law firms, is seeking an experienced and dedicated
Director of Accounting
to lead our Accounting team. This opportunity offers the chance to oversee the financial and operational aspects of a respected law firm with a supportive, family-friendly culture that values flexibility and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of the firm's accounting operations, including distributions, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), payroll processing, cash-based management, general ledger management, and budgeting.
  • Handle partner distributions and oversee cash-based accounting processes.
  • Ensure the preparation of monthly, annual, and ad hoc financial statements, along with profitability and performance reports.
  • Maintain asset schedules, compute depreciation, and prepare initial tax schedules (taxes are outsourced).
  • Manage the preparation and year-end distribution of shareholder income.
  • Supervise a team of 6-7 accounting staff, ensuring accurate and timely performance of all duties.
  • Oversee and administer payroll for a team of employees.
  • Uphold business professional standards and ensure compliance with regulatory and fiduciary guidelines.

Requirements:

  • CPA certification is

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field required.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory/management experience
    , preferably within a public accounting firm or law firm setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting and billing software applications.
  • Demonstrated expertise with cash-based accounting systems and processes necessary for AP, AR, and payroll.
  • Exceptional communication skills, strong analytical abilities, and high attention to detail.
  • Experience with distribution systems and practices is heavily preferred.
