Job Title: Software Development Manager

Position Overview

The Software Development Manager is a hybrid technical and managerial role responsible for overseeing software development operations, managing software engineering personnel, and leading the planning and execution of development projects. This individual will contribute directly to application development while also supervising the day-to-day activities of software engineers, assigning priorities, and providing mentorship and performance management. This position plays a critical role in maintaining and improving the custom software applications and enterprise systems that support the operational needs of the company.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership and Contribution

  • Design, develop, test, and enhance software applications using C#, SQL Server, and other tools and frameworks as appropriate.
  • Provide technical direction and support to team members on complex problems and code reviews.
  • Participate in development activities to introduce new features, technologies, and methodologies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve critical software issues and application bugs.

Project & Workstream Management

  • Manage and prioritize a backlog of software development requests and projects.
  • Assign work to development team members based on skills, project priority, and workload balancing.
  • Estimate and track task completion and project delivery timelines.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure successful and timely delivery of software enhancements and new systems.
  • Participate in defining the software development roadmap and contribute to strategic planning and resource allocation.

People Management & Team Development

  • Provide coaching, feedback, and mentorship to Software Engineers and Lead Software Engineers.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and establish professional development plans for software team members.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative team environment.
  • Lead regular team meetings and one-on-ones to discuss progress, priorities, and roadblocks.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as a liaison between the software development team and senior management, providing project updates and team performance summaries.
  • Translate business needs into technical solutions in collaboration with business stakeholders.
  • Work closely with other IT leaders on cross-functional projects involving infrastructure, reporting, and analytics.

Standards, Process & Documentation

  • Ensure adherence to best practices in software development, code quality, security, and testing.
  • Maintain and enhance internal documentation standards, development workflows, and ticketing systems.
  • Contribute to the establishment and refinement of development methodologies, including agile principles where appropriate and the use of CI/CD Pipelines.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in software development, with at least 2 years in a leadership or team lead role.
  • Proven experience managing software projects and technical personnel.

Key Competencies & Skills

  • Strong proficiency in C#, T-SQL, and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and software design patterns.
  • Demonstrated experience with project management tools and techniques, including Microsoft Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with Power BI and advanced reporting platforms.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead by example, mentor others, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • High level of accountability, ownership, and drive for results.

Other Requirements

  • Occasional travel to company sites.
  • Availability to provide off-hours support on a rotating basis as needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85, $120,000.00 per year
