Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in various accounting disciplines, including corporate, governmental, and non-profit accounting, with proficiency in financial analysis, reporting, and compliance. This role offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic environment where technical accounting skills and regulatory knowledge are essential for success. The Staff Accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audits, and ensuring adherence to GAAP and other regulatory standards.

Duties

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and perform balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial data.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing and payment tracking.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations and assist with cash flow analysis to support financial planning.
  • Record journal entries accurately using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support organizational decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls and prepare documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Support regulatory reporting requirements related to securities law, LIHTC, or other applicable standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on projects involving tax experience, estate law (wills & trusts), or corporate finance initiatives.
  • Mentor junior staff members or interns as needed to promote professional development within the team.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of financial transactions and support the preparation of financial reports for management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation preferred.
  • Proven experience in corporate accounting, public accounting, or governmental accounting environments.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, accrual accounting, double-entry bookkeeping, and financial concepts.
  • Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance, LIHTC programs, securities law, and regulatory reporting standards.
  • Experience with financial statement preparation, account reconciliation (including bank reconciliation), and journal entries.
  • Ability to interpret financial reports and conduct financial analysis including cash flow analysis and budgeting.
  • Excellent technical skills in Microsoft Excel; experience with financial report writing and interpretation is essential.
  • Strong understanding of debits & credits, general ledger accounting, accounts payable/receivable management, payroll processing, and audit procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor team members or interns while managing multiple priorities effectively.
