Job SummaryThe Chief Estimator is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the estimating department and ensuring accurate, competitive, and timely preparation of bids and proposals. This position plays a critical role in driving revenue growth by collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to secure projects across multiple sectors, including K-12 education, data centers, warehouses, semiconductor facilities, and other commercial properties.
Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in estimating within the general contracting industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience with K12, data centers, warehouses, semiconductor facilities, and commercial projects.
- Strong knowledge of bid proposal processes and contract negotiation.
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problemsolving skills.
- Ability to mentor and develop a highperforming estimating team.
- Strong financial acumen and understanding of cost control principles.
- Commitment to accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality.
This is primarily an office-based role with occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, and industry events as needed.
Primary Job Duties- Leadership & Management o Oversee and manage the estimating department, including staffing, training, and performance evaluations.
- Develop and implement best practices, processes, and tools for accurate and efficient estimating.
- Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for projects of varying size and complexity. oReview and approve all final estimates before submission to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and requirements to identify risks and opportunities.
- Work closely with the Revenue Team to align estimating strategies with business development goals. oCollaborate with Operations, Finance, and Project Management teams to ensure estimates reflect realistic costs and schedules.
- Engage with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to clarify scope and negotiate pricing.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, material costs, labor rates, and subcontractor availability. oBuild and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
- Utilize estimating software and digital tools to streamline workflows and improve accuracy.
- Continuously evaluate and implement new technologies and methodologies to enhance department efficiency.
