JOB SUMMARY:
The Luʻau Audio Technician is responsible for running and maintaining the live audio system during performances, ensuring consistent sound quality, accurate playback, and reliable execution of the show.
This is not a programming or design role. The Audio Technician operates pre-built systems and show files, manages QLab playback, mixes live audio on Yamaha consoles, and supports tracked and click-based performances with fully mic'd percussion. The role requires strong timing, situational awareness, and calm execution in an outdoor, live-performance environment.
DUTIES, RESPONSIBIITIES, & EXPECTATIONS:
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
CORE AUDIO RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate Yamaha audio consoles for live sound mixing during performances
- Run QLab for show playback, tracked audio, click tracks, and cue execution
- Execute audio cues accurately according to the run-of-show and production timing
- Mix live microphones, vocals, narration, and fully mic'd drums and percussion
- Coordinate playback timing with drummers, performers, and stage leadership
- Conduct pre-show system checks and verify audio readiness
- Monitor sound quality throughout the venue and make real-time adjustments
- Troubleshoot audio or playback issues quickly during live performances
- Support consistent audio quality across repeated shows
- Assist with audio equipment setup, strike, and secure storage post-event
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe audio work area
- Follow all production, safety, and venue protocols
LUʻAU-SPECIFIC & OUTDOOR AUDIO EXPECTATIONS
- Experience operating audio systems in outdoor event environments (wind, humidity, ambient noise)
- Strong familiarity with tracked and click-based performance systems
- Ability to balance playback tracks with live vocals and percussion
- Awareness of show flow, ceremonial moments, and performance cues
- Calm, focused, and professional presence during live performances
- Collaborative communication with performers, stage management, and production leadership
- Respect for cultural presentation and performance pacing
- Represent Hawaiian Council with professionalism and technical reliability
KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience running live audio for performances or productions required
- Hands-on experience operating Yamaha audio consoles
- Hands-on experience operating QLab for live show playback and cue execution
- Experience supporting tracked and click-driven shows
- Experience mic'ing and mixing live drums and percussion
- Strong troubleshooting skills in live environments
- Ability to follow established run-of-show documentation
- Ability to stand, lift, and move equipment for extended periods
- Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS & COMPLIANCE
- Must be eligible to serve alcohol in the State of Hawaiʻi
- Must hold or be able to obtain food safety and food handling certification as required by Hawaiʻi regulations

- Outdoor evening event setting in West Oʻahu (Ko Olina)
- Live performance and production environment
- Evening, weekend, and holiday availability required
Pay: $ $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 19.0 – 40.0 per week
