The Implementation Specialist supports the successful planning, execution, and sustainability of program initiatives across federally funded and/or complex multi-site projects. This role provides hands-on implementation support to clients and program recipients by assisting in project planning, monitoring progress, identifying barriers, developing tools and resources, and strengthening adoption of evidence-based practices.
The Implementation Specialist works collaboratively with internal project teams, federal partners, grantees, and community stakeholders to support implementation efforts aligned with program goals, timelines, and contract deliverables.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Implementation Specialist will:
- Provide implementation support to program recipients and project teams, including planning, execution, and continuous improvement activities.
- Assist clients and stakeholders in developing and refining implementation plans, timelines, workflows, and milestone tracking tools.
- Conduct implementation readiness assessments and support recipients in addressing gaps and barriers to successful implementation.
- Monitor implementation progress using qualitative and quantitative indicators; document findings and recommend corrective actions when needed.
- Support development of implementation tools and resources such as templates, guides, checklists, and training materials.
- Facilitate and/or support learning sessions, meetings, and communities of practice focused on implementation strategies, troubleshooting, and shared learning.
- Apply implementation science principles and best practices to support program adoption, fidelity, adaptation, and sustainability.
- Contribute to synthesis of lessons learned across recipients and sites and support the development of cross-site implementation insights or products.
- Provide documentation support for deliverables, technical assistance logs, summaries, reports, and internal tracking materials.
- Collaborate with VMG leadership and staff to ensure implementation activities align with project plans, timelines, and federal requirements.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following:
- Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree preferred) in public health, social science, healthcare administration, evaluation, implementation science, education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years of experience supporting implementation of programs, interventions, or systems change initiatives (preferably in public health, healthcare, or human services).
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate implementation activities and support stakeholders through planning, execution, and problem-solving.
- Strong communication skills, including ability to translate implementation concepts into clear guidance and action steps.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders (e.g., grantees, community partners, evaluators, federal agencies).
Preferred Skills and Competencies
Highly desirable candidates will have:
- Experience working on federally funded projects (HRSA, CDC, SAMHSA, NIH, ACF, etc.) or multi-site initiatives.
- Familiarity with implementation frameworks (e.g., CFIR, RE-AIM, EPIS, PDSA cycles, or other continuous improvement methodologies).
- Strong facilitation skills, including experience supporting meetings, trainings, and learning collaboratives.
- Ability to develop tools, guides, and written products that support program implementation and performance improvement.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual collaboration platforms (Teams, Zoom, SharePoint, etc.).
Work Environment / Travel
- This position is primarily remote, with occasional travel based on contract requirements and project needs.
- Must be able to participate in virtual meetings during standard business hours and support time-sensitive project deadlines.
