Position Summary:

The Design Engineer will be responsible for design on multiple projects, working with other design disciplines internal and external to PEC to develop engineering solutions for PEC's Clients.  This position will be responsible for preparing design deliverables for a variety of projects while maintaining PEC's standard of excellence. This position utilizes BIM/CAD software, hand calculations, and computer-based calculations. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs engineering design, coordinates with other design staff for construction document and specification production in compliance with building codes, construction administration, and development of reports/studies
  • Performs tasks during construction administration including review of submittals, site investigations, and RFI response under the direction of the Project Engineer
  • Performs design and takeoff computations by hand and by computer software
  • Organizes multiple projects and tasks and completes them in a timely manner, on schedule, and per PEC Standards
  • Organize project information and files according to corporate standard practices and workflows
  • Effectively communicates and coordinates with the Design Team to complete design tasks on numerous projects
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company's discretion

  • Experience with computer aided drafting and modeling using industry accepted software as described below:
    1. AutoDesk Revit

    4. Bluebeam Revu
    5. Acuity Visual Lighting Software and/or AGI
    6. SKM Power Tools, EasyPower, and/or ETAP
  • Experience with codes and regulations, interpreting plans, and design of discipline specific project components:
    1. Electrical Equipment Layout and Room Sizing
    2. Building Electrical Distribution (Power Distribution Panels, Panelboards, Motor Control, Transformers, Surge Protection, Generators, UPS Sytems) Design
      • Load Flow Calculations
      • Voltage Drop Calculations
      • Short Circuit Calculations
      • Overcurrent Protective Device Coordination
      • Arc Flash Calculations
      • Generator Sizing Calculations
    3. Building Electrical System Circuiting Design
    4. Grounding System Design
    5. Medium Voltage Distribution Design
    6. Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) System Design
    7. Building Lighting Design
    8. Site Lighting Design
    9. Sustainability/LEED Design
    10. Fire Alarm Device Layout
    11. Lightning Protection System Design
    12. Cathodic Protection System Design
    13. Electrical system design for Co-locate and Enterprise Data Centers
    14. Basic Knowledge of Technology Systems
      • Security, Access Control, Security Cameras
      • Audio-Visual Systems
      • Public Address Systems
      • Telecommunications Cabling
      • Nurse Call Systems

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field of study from an ABET Accredited University is required

 License and Certification:

  • Engineer in Training Certification preferred

At times, bending, reaching, standing, and walking may be required
