DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY

The GIS Specialist collaborates with all Jonah Energy departments to develop spatial solutions for business challenges. Responsibilities include maintaining the ArcSDE database, handling detailed land mapping requests, designing web maps in the ArcGIS Portal environment, and updating Jonah's Road network for field navigation. The role also supports Python and SQL repositories to ensure efficient data flow between business applications and GIS datasets. The GIS Specialist works as part of a fast-paced IT team, delivering quick turnaround on cartographic production. This position reports to the GIS Manager in the Denver office.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborates with business data users across Land, EH&S, Regulatory, Facilities, and other groups to identify their requirements and convert them into maps and datasets that support analysis and informed decision-making. Create and maintain web maps in Jonah's Enterprise GIS Environment ensuring accuracy and integrity.
  • Analyze spatial data to provide actional insights for project planning and decision making.
  • Generate detailed maps and visualization to support various departments, including exploration, production, and environmental compliance.
  • Develop and deliver high-quality cartographic production to support departments including Land, EH&S, Regulatory, and Facilities.
  • Collaborate with business data users to identify opportunities for improving operational workflows by leveraging GIS technologies in innovative ways. Accurately updates and maintains the Jonah Energy Road network data and builds ArcGIS Navigator mobile map packages for vehicle navigation, including configuration control and release cycle.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to geospatial data management and reporting.
  • Maintain respectful and productive working relationships within and across all work groups, ensuring effective collaboration and cooperation.

Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Expertise working with ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcMap.
  • Full understanding of ArcGIS Enterprise systems such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Online, and mobile apps such as ArcGIS Navigator, ArcGIS Field Maps, and ArcGIS Collector.
  • Broad knowledge of database query tools and a general knowledge of SQL.
  • Strong understanding of cartographic principles and map design.
  • Experience with and/or a deep desire to learn GIS development in Python & SQL.
  • Significant knowledge, skills, and experience with ESRI Database design & implementation.
  • Full proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, OneNote, Teams, and Excel).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Work independently and in a team environment.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently to meet deliverables.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; effectively converse with all levels of the company, customers, business associates.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 3+ years as a professional GIS Specialist.
  • Experience in spatial data analysis, management, and visualization.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining geospatial databases.

  • Previous experience in Oil and Gas Exploration & Production
  • Previous experience mapping Federal Oil & Gas Leases
  • Previous experience with Python, SQL, or other applicable coding languages
  • Working in a source-controlled development environment

Jonah Energy determines the salary level for potential new employees by considering a candidate's experience, skills, and education, along with the position's work location, external market conditions and internal pay equity.

This position is eligible for a 9/80 hybrid work schedule after 30-days of employment. Work is performed at office on Tuesdays through Thursdays, remote work on Mondays and Fridays.
