Primary Care Physician
Location: Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Lansing, MI
Employment Type: Full-time OR Part-time
Reports To: Medical Director and Chief Operating Officer
Note: Both major hospital systems in our region do not offer any part-time positions for physicians. They require all physicians to be full-time. In addition to offering full-time employment, Care Free Medical is also offering part-time positions in order to make ourselves more appealing and more accommodating for people who still want to utilize their training as family physicians but who don't necessarily want to work full-time, whether that's due to pursuing other interests, raising children, or anything else We are willing to hire you as a W-2 employee or a 1099 contractor, whichever you prefer.
Position Summary:
The Physician provides comprehensive, patient-centered primary care to individuals and families across the lifespan in a Federally Qualified Health Center. This role emphasizes high-quality, culturally competent, and accessible care for underserved and medically diverse populations. The physician works as part of an interdisciplinary care team to promote preventive care, manage acute and chronic conditions, and support overall community health.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive primary care services, including preventive, acute, and chronic care, to patients of all ages
Assist in overseeing resident physicians (from UM-Sparrow and McLaren Greater Lansing) and medical students (from Michigan State University) who rotate through our clinic
Diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions in accordance with evidence-based clinical guidelines
Perform routine office procedures, if desired
Manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, COPD, and mental health conditions
Provide health education, counseling, and preventive screenings
Coordinate care with specialists, hospitals, and community resources
Patient-Centered & Team-Based Care
Deliver care using a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) or team-based care model
Collaborate with medical assistants, behavioral health providers, care coordinators, and other staff
Address social determinants of health and connect patients to supportive services
Ensure culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and equitable care
Documentation & Compliance:
Maintain timely and accurate medical records in our EHR (We use Epic as a Community Connect Site through UM-Sparrow Hospital)
Comply with FQHC, HRSA, state, and federal regulations and reporting requirements
Help lead quality improvement initiatives and clinical performance measures
Community & Organizational Engagement:
Support the mission and values of the FQHC in serving underserved populations
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and continuing medical education
May participate in community outreach, health education events, or teaching activities
Compensation & Benefits:
We offer a competitive salary in comparison to other FQHCs -- we cannot outbid big hospital systems but working for us is much more enjoyable than working for a hospital-owned group practice
Eligibility for federal loan repayment programs
Medical, dental, and vision insurance
Paid time off and holidays
CME allowance and malpractice coverage (including tail-coverage)
Requirements
Qualifications Required:
Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree
Completion of an accredited Family Medicine or Internal Medicine residency program
Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
Active and unrestricted medical license (or ability to obtain licensure)
DEA registration (or eligibility)
Commitment to working with underserved and diverse populations
Comfort in diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, including, but not limited to, MDD, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and PTSD
Dedication to serving the underserved
Qualifications Preferred:
Experience working in an FQHC, community health center, or safety-net setting either as an attending or as a resident
Experience with, or willingness to learn, value-based care, quality metrics, or population health
Strong clinical and diagnostic skills across the lifespan
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively with patients who have limited resources
Commitment to health equity, cultural humility, and patient advocacy
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract
