  • Minimum P.D. students
  • Ph.D. candidates, Post-doctoral fellows, professors in STEM (preferred)
  • Applicants with a Master's Degree in Mathematics or Computer Science related fields are welcome to apply as well
  • Industry professionals in applied mathematics are welcome to apply.
  • Two years teaching experience preferred
  • Experience working with junior high OR high school students is preferred

Terms of Employment

  • Instructors will conduct interactive workshops in the Applied Mathematics Track or the Artificial Intelligence & Technology track throughout the duration of the program.
  • Each ALA program occurs for three weekends. During each ALA program, instruction occurs on each of the following weekends in each program:
  • o ALA (8th-9th Gd.): February 27-March 1, 2026; March 27-29, 2026; April 24-26, 2026

o ALA (10th-12th Gd.): February 6-8, 2026; March 13-15, 2026; April 10-12, 2026

  • On Saturdays, interactive workshops run from 9:00 AM EST – 4:30 PM EST. Two related workshops must be conducted. One is conducted from 9 AM – 12 PM, and the second is conducted from 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM. An unpaid lunch break is scheduled from 12 PM-1:30 PM.
  • For ALA on Saturday April 12th, the workshops will run from 1:00 PM – 6:30 PM EST.
  • On Sundays, lecture/open discussion-based workshops (entitled "New Thinking" Workshops) run from 10:00 AM EST – 1:00 PM EST. The goal of the New Thinking Workshops in each Track is to discuss hot topics and societal impacts within STEM.
  • Submission of a comprehensive syllabus, lesson plans (including hands on interactive and engaging activities) and listing of required materials needed for conducting workshops will be required upon hire.
  • Instructors are required to provide a brief workshop summary after each weekend workshop is conducted.

Salary

  • Competitive salary depending upon prior experience and education level.
  • Saturday- $800-$1,000 depending on education level and prior experience.
  • Sunday- No doctorate- $200
  • Sunday- PhD Post Doc Fellow with teaching experience- $250

Responsibilities

  • The design and submission of a comprehensive syllabus, and lesson plans (including hands on interactive and engaging activities) and listing of required materials needed for conducting Saturday workshops will be required upon hire. The selected instructor can also tailor their lesson plans and syllabus to workshop title, as well as personal and educational experience.
  • Prepare, initiate, and conduct two interactive Saturday workshops with students incorporating a mixture of an informational discussion based method and interactivity.
  • Prepare, initiate, and conduct a lecture/open discussion based Sunday workshop with students to discuss hot topics and societal impacts within STEM.
  • Provide a brief summary for your workshops after weekend workshops are conducted.
  • Advise students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues.
  • Work with Senior Program Manager, Program Manager and report to the Chief of Faculty and Executive Director
  • Instructors must have own transportation to get to Princeton, NJ to conduct workshops.
  • For instructors travelling from outside of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut, travel remuneration up to $300 in total may be provided to get to and from Princeton University. Receipts are required.

Sample Description (Applied Mathematics): Mathematics, like other theoretical and applied fields, is based on observation and theorization. Through observation and hands-on learning, you will develop and further extend your knowledge and become aware of how to facilitate mathematics learning. Learn how to apply simple mathematical calculations to daily life and different areas of science, including chemistry, biology, and physics.

Sample Description (Artificial Intelligence & Technology): Voice-powered personal assistants like Siri and Alexa, personalized streaming recommendations, chess-playing computers, self-driving cars, cybersecurity software and applications, brain-computer interfaces, and smart technology all have one thing in common- they are based on artificial intelligence (AI). It is a branch of computer science that explores how devices and machines can learn from experience, adjust to new inputs, and perform human-like tasks. Many of these technologies are designed to perform specific tasks by processing large amounts of data and learning according to patterns in the data. Each workshop will include discussions and hands-on applications.
