Job Overview

We are seeking a Staff Accountant to maintain accurate financial records, prepare financial reports, assist with tax and audit tasks. In this role, you will benefit from mentorship, exposure to complex accounting issues, and support in your professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and other financial records on a regular basis.
  • Enter and review financial transactions in the general ledger with precision and integrity.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, audits, and tax filings, deepening your technical expertise.
  • Oversee auditing processes and assist clients with schedules required by bank or auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with clients to obtain information for financial reporting processes.
  • Utilize financial software such as QuickBooks, or similar tools for efficient bookkeeping.
  • Prepare sales tax, personal property tax and payroll tax returns.
  • Prepare income tax returns for individuals and small businesses.
  • Stay updated on financial concepts, securities law, tax regulations, and governmental accounting standards.
  • Participate in training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programs designed to prepare candidates for the CPA exam (if desired).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Proven experience in public accounting or corporate finance roles.
  • Ability to mange various projects while ensuring recurring work is completed timely is crucial.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for batch entry, preparing financial schedules, and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with technical accounting concepts including accrual accounting, double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and financial statement preparation.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Experience in payroll processing and understanding of wills, trusts & estate law is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
