What is a Data Scientist?
As a Data Scientist at Central Hudson Gas & Electric—a regulated electric and gas utility serving New York's Mid-Hudson River Valley—you will gain valuable, hands-on experience applying fundamental data science methods to inform key business decisions. What does a Data Scientist do?

• Collects, cleans, and organizes data from various internal and external sources
• Conducts exploratory data analyses to identify trends, correlations, and insights
• Develops, tests, and refines predictive models for operational outcomes
• Creates data visualizations and dashboards to communicate results and recommendations
• Participates in cross-functional projects to support business objectives
• Documents findings, methods, and best practices for ongoing knowledge sharing
• Collaborates with cross-functional teams to define project objectives and analytical requirements
• Contributes to process improvements and data-driven strategies within the organization
• Provides support for storm restoration efforts

What does it take to be a Data Scientist?
Required

• Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or a related field and experience working in data science or a closely related discipline
• Proficiency with programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and data manipulation tools
• Demonstrated understanding of statistical techniques or machine learning concepts
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Valid driver's license

Preferred

• Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or a related field
• 3+ years of professional experience in data science or a closely related discipline
• Experience in the utility and/or energy industry
• In depth knowledge of machine learning techniques and modeling approaches
• Experience with big data technologies, cloud platforms, or distributed computing frameworks
• Experience with Asset/ Equipment Management modeling

This position has a career path which allows for advancement opportunities within a job series. The title and level are commensurate with experience. Pay range: $71,900 – $168,700
