Summary of Job Duties:

This posting will be used to fill multiple positions

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs patient care tasks and duties which do not require a license. The PCT is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary patient management team in E7 Medical Oncology/Transplant Unit.

E7 Medical Oncology/transplant Unit has 28 private rooms and provides state of the art therapies, including stem cell transplant, to a wide range of medical oncology patients. Practicing in this environment allows the registered nurse to develop skills in chemotherapy and biotherapy administration, management of a range of IV central access devices and a variety of symptoms associated with the disease and/or treatment, and the development of skills in emotional support and palliative care. A strong interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, and social workers who support the patient in their various therapies.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Successful completion of patient care technician course within 3 months of hire.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, ability to follow oral instructions, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability.
  • Must be able to lift 100 lbs. to waist height.

Preferred:

  • Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman
  • Patient care experience in acute care setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtains patient report and has on-going communication with R.N. regarding patient care/changes in condition; Informs nurse of patient requests or complaints.
  • Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Transports patients to other areas of the hospital as directed.
  • Carries out the Plan of Care for Patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach as Delegated by Team Leader.
  • Communicates effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.
  • Accepts directions from R.N.s and team members.
  • Follows through on delegated patient care activities.
  • Provides appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assists patients with activities (ambulation, up in chair, turn and reposition).
  • Documents all patient care activities/tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, I&O's accurately and timely and per unit and department standards.
  • Assists patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems.
  • Serves as resources person to support department members in performance of duties.
  • Notifies appropriate staff members of problems requiring prompt intervention.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
