Director of Facilities

The Director of Facilities will lead the national facilities management strategy for Mission Pet Health's portfolio of more than 850 hospitals across 41 states. This role is responsible for ensuring all hospitals operate in safe, compliant, and efficient environments that support exceptional pet care.
The Director will oversee facilities operations, vendor management, preventive maintenance programs, and capital planning while leading a high-performing team of eight facilities professionals. The ideal candidate combines strategic and analytical thinking with strong operational execution, enabling Mission Pet Health to scale effectively while maintaining consistent standards of quality, responsiveness, and cost stewardship.
Leadership & Team Development- Lead, develop, and mentor a team of Senior Facilities Specialists and Facilities Specialists responsible for daily maintenance and support across all regions.
- Set clear performance expectations, provide regular coaching and feedback, and foster a culture of accountability, service, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Real Estate, Finance, and Procurement teams to ensure alignment between facilities priorities and business goals.
- Oversee national facilities maintenance programs, including reactive repairs, preventive maintenance, and vendor-managed services across 900+ hospitals.
- Implement and optimize the Fexa platform for work order management, vendor performance tracking, spend analytics, and preventive maintenance compliance.
- Ensure consistent application of facilities standards, maintenance protocols, and regulatory compliance across all locations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key vendor partners, ensuring strong communication, adherence to service level agreements (SLAs), and effective resolution of escalated issues.
- Develop and manage the annual facilities operating and capital budgets, ensuring financial accountability and accurate forecasting.
- Analyze portfolio performance metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Partner with Real Estate and Construction teams to support new hospital openings, relocations, and capital improvement projects.
- Lead RFP processes and negotiate national service agreements that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service quality.
- Standardize preventive maintenance and repair workflows to reduce downtime and extend asset life.
- Leverage data and insights from Fexa to drive decision-making, resource allocation, and operational optimization.
- Partner cross-functionally to improve energy efficiency, equipment performance, and sustainability across the portfolio.
- Champion innovative tools and processes that support scalability, visibility, and operational excellence.
Required Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in facilities management, with at least 3 years in a multi-unit or national leadership role.
- Demonstrated success managing large distributed portfolios and teams across multiple states.
- Strong financial acumen and experience overseeing operating and capital budgets of $10M+.
- Proficient in facilities management software (Fexa preferred), Microsoft Office, Excel, and G-Suite.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and vendor negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of leasehold repair responsibilities, life-cycle maintenance, and capital planning.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience within veterinary, healthcare, retail, or service-based multi-unit environments.
- Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) credential.
- Experience leading FM system implementations or data-driven operational initiatives.
