First things first: What's Club?

Since 1865, Boys & Girls Clubs (aka Club) has been making positive impacts in the lives of kids and teens. Today, we're a global movement, reaching nearly 3.6 million young people in over 5,000 locations worldwide Right here in Rochester, we're proud to have 4 amazing Club sites, offering out-of-school programs designed to meet unique educational and health needs. We currently serve about 300 children and teens (aka members) and their families.

What's the Role?

Club has 4 positive outcomes areas that serve as the north star for how we serve our members: 1) Health & Well-being, Character & Leadership, 3) Academic Success, and 4) Life & Workforce Readiness. YDPs help Club make these positive outcome areas a reality, you'll be the ultimate guide, mentor, and fun-maker for a group of awesome members You'll lead activities, spark imaginations, and build strong, supportive relationships — all while keeping things safe, exciting, and fresh.

Location + Grades

We are currently hiring a YDP to work with our middle and high school teens, based out of our flagship Club at The Place (1026 E Center St., Rochester, MN While YDPs are usually assigned to work with specific grade levels, YDPs are expected to be flexible to work with any grade level. Additionally, site assignments are subject to occasional change based on coverage needs, school closures, and summer schedule. Club will always strive to work with you on agreeable grade and site assignments.

Working Schedules

This is an after-school position running through June 3. School-year programs run Monday–Friday from 1:30pm to 8pm, with most staff scheduled from 1:30pm to 5:30pm. There are occasional opportunities to work past 5:30pm, based on attendance and a rotating dismissal schedule.

If you have specific site or scheduling needs, please include them in your application.

YDPs are also expected to attend monthly trainings, typically held at The Place.

What Does the Day-to-Day Look Like?

  • Safety First: The most important job a YDP has is keeping members safe and supervised. This means ensuring members have staff eyes on them at all times and that the Club environment is positive, clean, and welcoming.
  • Program Planning & Execution: Design and implement curriculum and activities – while keeping the 4 positive outcome areas weaved into programming and interactions. You'll have an awesome team helping you with this.
  • Youth Development: Be a mentor and positive role model — guide members in building life skills, self-confidence, leadership abilities, and a sense of belonging.
  • Be a Problem Solver: Handle any challenges (including behavioral) with creativity and care, ensuring a positive, respectful space for everyone.
  • Flexibility + Staying Levelheaded: Working with children and teens is about as meaningful of a job there is. It can be a ton of fun. It also comes with daily challenges that require teamwork, adaptability, and patience No two days are the same.
