About New York Life Ventures

New York Life Ventures (NYLV) is the corporate venture and innovation arm of New York Life Insurance Company. We accelerate innovation by investing in, partnering with, and piloting technologies that advance New York Life's mission to serve families and communities. Our team collaborates closely with startups, internal business units, and the broader venture ecosystem to identify and scale solutions that drive meaningful business impact.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a Business Development Associate to support our growing portfolio of startup partnerships and technology programs. This role blends program management, business operations, and innovation partnership support, helping to scale the impact of Ventures' initiatives across the enterprise.

You will work closely with the Business Development and broader NYL Ventures team to manage NYL Ventures' portfolio of enterprise startup technology programs, coordinate pilot initiatives, support reporting and storytelling, and help drive engagement between startups and internal business units. This role sits at the center of Ventures' efforts to scale innovation across New York Life — ensuring that high-impact startup partnerships deliver measurable value to employees and customers alike.

What You'll Do:

Team Operations

  • Manage monthly reporting for the Business Development team, ensuring CRM data accuracy and alignment with team goals.
  • Support quarterly and annual reporting efforts, working with the Ventures Head of Platform to represent BD initiatives and metrics.
  • Contribute to NYL Ventures' storytelling efforts by highlighting key startup partnerships and innovation successes across internal and external channels.
  • Assist with planning and execution of events, including annual meetings, Chat with a Founder panels, and Venture community gatherings.

Program Management

  • Oversee NYL Ventures' portfolio of enterprise startup technology programs used across the business, supporting user onboarding, training, and adoption.
  • Collaborate directly with startup partners to test new releases, troubleshoot issues, share feedback, and identify new use cases.
  • Manage relationships with key startup partners, serving as their primary point of contact and ensuring alignment between partner goals and New York Life's strategic priorities.
  • Partner with NYL Technology and business units to promote and expand usage of venture-backed tools across the enterprise.
  • Conduct monthly reporting on program performance, user engagement, and growth opportunities.

Business Development Support

  • Assist in sourcing and screening high-quality startups aligned to NYL's strategic priorities.
  • Conduct market research and diligence on emerging technologies and trends.
  • Build internal relationships to understand business needs and identify potential innovation opportunities.

What You'll Bring:

  • 2–4 years of experience in business development, sales, marketing, program management, consulting, or corporate innovation.
  • Strong organizational skills with an eye for detail and follow-through.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear insights.
  • Experience working cross-functionally and managing multiple stakeholders.
  • Curiosity and a "test-and-learn" mindset, with enthusiasm for experimenting, iterating, and continuously improving.
  • Team-oriented and coachable, with a proactive approach to feedback and collaboration.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit — motivated to take initiative, solve problems creatively, and drive ideas forward.
  • Commitment to delivering an exceptional experience for internal partners and startup collaborators, ensuring smooth communication and strong relationships.
  • Proficiency with collaboration and productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Suite, Airtable, Coda, or CRM platforms).

Why Join NYL Ventures

This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of startups and enterprise innovation — helping bring cutting-edge technology into one of the world's most trusted financial institutions. You'll gain exposure to the venture ecosystem, enterprise transformation efforts, and the fast-paced world of startup partnerships.
