Responsibilities

  • Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear based on prescriptions, lifestyle needs, and personal preferences.
  • Take precise measurements for lens fitting, including pupillary distance and frame adjustments.
  • Educate patients on lens options, frame styles, and proper eyewear maintenance.
  • Manage optical inventory, including ordering supplies and maintaining stock levels.
  • Support clinical staff with tasks such as taking vital signs, recording medical history, and updating electronic health records (EHR) using systems like Epic or other EMR platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform laboratory work such as lens cutting and edging when required.
  • Assist in retail sales operations by providing excellent customer service and promoting optical products.
  • Maintain a clean and sterile environment following aseptic techniques when necessary.
  • Support senior care or pediatrics patients by providing tailored assistance with eyewear needs.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of ophthalmology principles, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Experience with optical equipment, laboratory procedures, and lab work related to eyewear fabrication.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic and medical billing processes.
  • Excellent communication skills to educate patients effectively about their eyewear options and health needs.
  • Ability to handle retail sales efficiently while maintaining a focus on patient care.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure compliance with patient privacy standards.
  • Competence in retail math for managing inventory and sales transactions.
  • Experience working in clinics or healthcare settings involving pediatrics or senior care is advantageous.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure while managing multiple responsibilities including medical coding and documentation.
